Awesome! Thank you. I’m going to bring that up with her.

Reducing Oxaliplatin

I just finished my fourth out of twelve cycle of FolFox. I’ve had more nausea than my oncologist expected, and I had sensitivities to some of the anti nausea meds that caused migraines, but it seems like we have tweaked those and Emend seems to keep it pretty well under control. I’ve had burning/tin...

Re: Please help, input needed

I’m so sorry to read that you are still in so much pain. When I was in the hospital, the morphine seemed to do nothing for me. My doctor changed it to IV Dilaudid with zofran. I could almost instantly feel all of my pain slip away. I understand why it carries such a risk of addiction because it work...

Re: should I send this letter to my husband's onc (or not)?

I sent my oncologist 3 pages of questions through my portal. I made sure to write that I did not expect her to spend her weekend giving me answers in writing, but I would print them out and we could discuss at our next visit. I told her that I was just giving her a heads-up so she had time to prepar...

Re: Scary times . . .

Regarding masks, my oncology center (John Muir) requires employees to wear surgical masks and patients are given a surgical mask when they arrive and are required to wear it if they have not brought their own. I happen to have N95 masks at home. They were left over from last year’s fire season. My s...

Re: Trying to Understand my Pathology Report

Thank you. That is helpful advice.

I know my oncologist said we were going to do genetic testing, but I’ll make sure it actually got ordered when I’m there tomorrow getting an iron infusion.

Trying to Understand my Pathology Report

Because the report was delayed, we didn’t have it when I met with my oncologist last week, so no one has really gone over it and explained it all to me. It came yesterday when I happened to be in my surgeons getting my drain and staples removed. I asked him to print a copy for me to take home. Now I...

Re: Hello Again!

Thanks. I do tend to be a positive person in general and I had such a great role model of seeing my dad keep his grace and sense of humor to the very end. My oncologist said that they will be doing genetic testing. I’m not sure when. I don’t know if they did that when my dad was sick, but his girlfr...

Re: Hello Again!

Thank you for the welcome. I bet you are right. The 6-8 weeks is probably what they prefer due to the blood clots or complications after surgery rather than just standard post operative care. I’m going to see a primary care doctor today and I’ll see my surgeon tomorrow and hopefully get my drain rem...

Hello Again!

I joined this forum years ago when my father had colon cancer. It was a great support to me when I was navigating such new waters. I’m back with my own colon cancer diagnosis. I’m glad to be among friends and since I have been through this before in a different role, it has not been nearly as scary ...

My father passed away.

I am still in shock, even though I had "plenty" of time to prepare for his passing. He was diagnosed on his 70th birthday. Fortunately, we live in Houston, and he began being treated at MD Anderson. He did very well on chemo for 2 years and had almost no side effects. During that time, he ...

Re: I really hope you don't mind it here

I primarily lurk, but I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your posts. I'm fortunate that my dad has talked to me about what he wants in terms of his death and services. One thing that has bewildered me since his diagnosis though, is his not choosing to do any research. He is a person who has ...

I fixed it. That's what I get for trying to type with my left hand and nurse the baby at the same time!
