Re: Help. Squirt bottle recommendations?

I use one that has a bend near the tip. That way, you can hold it from the front and it will squirt water directly at your butthole. I thought about getting one of those bidets that you can install onto your existing toilet, and I just didn't want to bother with installation. The squirt bottle is li...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

Sorry to keep updating everyone with the saga of my digestive system (I know you're all riveted), but this is really weird: I woke up this morning feeling fine. I had a normal (albeit small) poop. Spent all day feeling normal! Had a normal (albeit small) poop tonight! And I did not take ANY Lomotil,...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

I've had the impression that the "canned fruit" in question should basically just be applesauce, preferable unsweetened. That was part of my post-surgical diet, and I used to take packs of it to chemo for a snack. Yeah, I have to start eating more applesauce. My mother, who was from Germa...

Re: Worried about chemo port

The reason that I personally would call ahead of time is that your onc is unlikely to be able to pull a chest xray out of a hat on infusion day, thus resulting in delays if there is a problem. Good point! Totally. Spoke with oncologist today. She asked if there was any swelling, bleeding under the ...

Re: Worried about chemo port

I've honestly hated this thing from the beginning. It makes me feel like a cyborg.

Re: Worried about chemo port

Hi TinaFish, is your port accessed at the moment? Noooooo Ok great. Then I agree with boxhill - I’d mention it to the docs before they use it again, and they may want to verify positioning. The whole thing will be radio-opaque so a quick x-ray is usually sufficient. Mainly want to be sure you haven...

Re: Worried about chemo port

I have no idea exactly how they do it, but I do know that I would be really worried that the tube into the vein might be misplaced or something. If I were you I would call them and let them know right away. They can do a chest xray to confirm that everything is where it ought to be before having a ...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

Is hydralite or a similar product (or Oral Rehydration Salts) available from your pharmacy? It tastes similar to Gatorade but with way less sugar and more salt. Alternatively you can easily and cheaply mix up St Mark’s Solution - it’s 1 litre of water, with 6 teaspoons of glucose powder (or sugar),...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

PS: I think the canned fruits are a double-edged sword. They are relatively low in fibre and their fibre is soluble (esp compared with fresh fruits) so are often recommended for people with upset or sensitive stomachs. However they are also very high in fructose, which can be a diarrhea trigger for...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

No worries at all TinaFish! Indeed I’m a big KFC fan too - but when I do it, I mainly stick to the chips and maybe some chicken strips. I find things with lots of batter (like popcorn chicken or the big burgers) I little trickier since my gallbladder moved out. Nandos is actually my personal favour...

Worried about chemo port

Hey, everyone. I tried to look through the site to see if anyone had asked the same/similar question, and I couldn't find anything. Sooo, a few days ago, I was in my garage, wedged in a pretty tight space. I was facing my metal shelves, and I was looking for something on the shelves. Once I found it...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

Have you considered keeping a detailed food-and-toilet log to see if there are any foods/beverages/medications that trigger your bowel problems? It might be worth a try. Among the foods/beverages/medications that you have mentioned consuming so far, there are several that are notorious for causing ...

Re: Any Stage IV currently in NEDville? Please share any advice or tips? P

I'm bumping this thread back up to the top. KNOW there are many people out there who are stage IV survivors (many in NEDville). They just do not check in as often. If you do a search, you will find other threads asking the same question. Know that it is possible to beat this cancer and MANY stage I...
