Re: Knicked ureter

Has anyone else had their ureter knicked during colon surgery? I had surgery May 7 to remove tumor from sigmoid and surgeon knicked my ureter (tube from kidney to bladder). I’ve since needed a Foley catheter and a naphrostomy bag. Which was surgically placed. I need another surgery to repair yester...

Re: Probiotics while on Immunotherapy. Good or bad?

There is limited data but here is my take: Store bought commercial probiotics are likely almost entirely junk since they aren’t refrigerated, so they are mostly dead. The data that does exist shows immunotherapy response is correlated with micobiome diversity. If you load up your biome with bugs tha...

Do you mind sharing what insurance denied the MRI? I’ve never run into this.

Re: Need thoughts

I feel so confused by all this. I haven’t had any of those blood test or how I get them or about tissue on the slides Jen don’t let RP stress you out. The advice he pushes on people is not accepted by the medical community and you won’t find it in any national guidelines (in the US or elsewhere). T...

Re: FDA helping cancer patients

Hopefully this will help some people. .. I'm not sure if this link will work, if not a quick search should find it. I saw it on the news this evening https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-announces-project-facilitate-assist-physicians-seeking-access-unapproved-therapies-patients D...

Re: Laid off before Dx

This could have gotten political really quick, I thought about doing it but thankfully I didn’t. As far as money goes, what about a life insurance living benefit? Anyone approach their doctor about it? One of my policies require the doctor to sign that you have 9 months or so left, it’s something I...

Hi Pyro 70, Thank you for your response. Congratulations on your wedding! I will talk to my daughter and see if we can do two weddings as you’d suggested. I will also try to contact the author of the study and see if he can get their experimental drug. Where did you get the HIPEC procedure? Do you ...

Regorafenib plus nivolumab in patients with advanced gastric (GC) or colorectal cancer (CRC): An open-label, dose-finding, and dose-expansion phase 1b trial (REGONIVO, EPOC1603).

29% ORR in MSS CRC (7 out of 24 patients). Just wow, right?

Re: Options when folfiri +irinotecan , Erbitux no longer work for stage 4 with carcinomatosis ?

I married my wife last month in a simple wedding at home with a friend officiating (you can become an officiant within 5 minutes online). We planned it 2 days in advance because frankly with my health we can’t plan a big event in the future. In hindsight we both really enjoyed a wedding that was jus...

Sounds like chemo has actually worked quite well for him, sorry it’s become resistant. You may want to try a third line therapy like regorafenib. It may buy some time if he can handle it. I’m not sure, but there may also soon be a new agent available for third line (see Asco 2019 abstract below). RO...

Re: Laid off before Dx

As a Canadian I can’t complain about the level of care I’ve had here. Serious illnesses are prioritized. I’ve waited 11 months for a CT scan for something not urgent, I’ve also been squeezed in immediately numerous times over the past 6 months for many procedures. All without giant bills or premium...

Re: On a Clinical Trial but I Think We're Reaching the End

Sorry to hear about your story. I had a similar diagnosis in Jan 2017 (tough month). I’m sure you and/or your doctors have already looked into it, but have you confirmed that he doesn’t have mutations for some of the new (highly effective) targeted therapies? Was an NGS completed that looked for NT...

Re: On a Clinical Trial but I Think We're Reaching the End

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I don’t think you should censor yourself. Call out bad behavior. I also agree with Brenda, spouses have it the worst. The worst part for cancer patients is knowing loved ones will carry this burden for the rest of their lives. For us patients it’s unfortunately/fortu...

Re: Laid off before Dx

I An ACA plan (Obamacare) may be more affordable than your employer’s COBRA especially if you're eligible for subsidies. ACA plans are good insurance, it will cover everything. The only downside is that the network is typically limited to your home state. I would pay extra for a PPO as a cancer pat...
