Anyone Had Their Tumor Not Shrink Following Chemo/Radiation?

I did 25 sessions of chemo/radiation in January of this year and then had a scan in mid March to check the results. The scan showed the same dimensions as before the treatment for the main tumor. My surgeon says that it shrunk but gave no details, although he did state that he no longer sees the lym...

What To Expect With Surgery

So, I got my surgery on Monday. I am kind of nervous but am ready to get this over with. My tumor is located 9 cm from the anal verge and I was told to expect an ileostomy bag when I wake up. Just wondering if anyone is willing to share their experience and who could tell me what to expect during re...

Anyone had zero change in tumor size following 5 weeks chemo/radiation?

I am reading over the notes from my most recent scan. The dimensions they give for my tumor are the exact same as they were before the treatment. Does the tumor continue to shrink past 5 weeks post chemo/radiation?

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

Sorry to ask a new question, but how long after radiation ended with the diaherra (for those who got it) go away? I have 3 more days (the boosts) and I am ready for this particular side effect to end. I never experienced the diarhea too much, but do notice that you are doing 28 sessions. Just wonde...

Re: What Week Of Chemo/Radiation Do The Symptoms Start Getting Worse?

Well, I made it through my last treatment of radiation. Still no pain when I poop. I have some skin tenderness on my backside, and I feel a little dazed, but other than that, I think I made it through this pretty well. I know it might get worse over the next week after reading through other's experi...

Re: What Week Of Chemo/Radiation Do The Symptoms Start Getting Worse?

My last treatment is next Thursday. They started me on a Thursday and I will end on a Thursday. So, these are the last two weeks. I have had a noticeable side effect that I have not seen mentioned on here. I have woke up in the middle of the night a dozen times it feels in the past couple of nights ...

Re: What Week Of Chemo/Radiation Do The Symptoms Start Getting Worse?

I’m in the same boat. Done 20 sessions now and have 5 more to go. I’ve had some gas and more frequent bowel movements but no pain, or pooping glass like I’ve read. My tumor is quite high though, at the sigmoid/rectosigmoid junction, maybe that has something to do with that. I worked out regularly u...

Re: What Week Of Chemo/Radiation Do The Symptoms Start Getting Worse?

It will get worse, it is cumulative. I really didn't notice any issues until the last two weeks. The skin does become sore. My biggest issue was I felt like I was passing glass when I urinated. I had to use lidocaine to numb the area every time i went. I don't know if you're a man or woman. If you ...

I am ending week 1 1/2 right now (Started last Thursday) and can say that I have yet to experience any side effects. I have 5 total weeks of treatment or 25 total radiation sessions. I do smoke an...

Percentage That Have A Complete Clinical Response To Chemo/Radiation

Does anyone know what percentage of people who go through chemoradiation for rectal cancer before surgery experience a "complete clinical response"? My radiation oncologist told me that it was near 30%, and that seems a bit high to me? Thanks

Re: Looking For Help With A Study

Everyone's cancers are different in their growth rates. There is no set time and honestly say it has anything to do with your service is going to be hard to prove. Somewhere on this forum I posted some information on doubling times for colon cancer based on some generalizations. Here is a link to i...

Looking For Help With A Study

Hello, I was just recently staged 3b rectal cancer. I am a 39 year old veteran. My surgeon told me the other day that the cancer has been in me a minimum of 4-5 years. He would not write that down in my records and then told me to get with my oncologist. The reason I am here asking for help is becau...

Staged T3N1 for Rectal Cancer Today

Finally got my staging done this morning and that is what the Doctor told me. I researched the net and I believe this makes me Stage IIIB. Anyone care to chime in to correct me if I am wrong?

Question About Indeterminate Pulmonary Nodules And Staging

So, last Friday, I got a call from one of the Doctors, I believe it was the same Doctor who did my clonoscopy. He told me over the phone that the CT scan I had earlier that day did not show signs of metastastic disease and that the cancer was only seen in my rectum and a few possible lymph nodes. To...
