Re: When do you feel back to normal? Surgery soon. NED? Please read Looking for insight

Hi! Your post caught my eye because your treatment plan seems identical to my mom’s who also had hers at Mayo. Will you be getting a temporary ileo? Who is your surgeon if I may ask? My mom was told she did not need additional chemo beyond the 8 neoadjuvant cycles of Folfox she received before radia...

Re: T1 N1 Rectal Cancer

Yes and no. The chemo/radiation she will receive before surgery is intended to shrink the tumor and the lymph nodes so ideally when you get to surgery, things will be much smaller or possibly not even there—they will then give you a final staging based on the pathology after the surgery but this is ...

Re: T1 N1 Rectal Cancer

Sorry you find yourself here. It’s very scary in the beginning waiting for tests and staging. This link helped me understand staging a little better: https://www.cancer.net/cancer-types/colorectal-cancer/stages. It looks like right now she is a Stage III A. Hoping for clear results on the chest CT!

Re: New member - scared & looking for tips

Glad you have a date for your surgery! I know it is scary that it can run in families and that they found something in your brother but just think—it’s a good thing it was found so if it does end up being anything cancer related he too can get treatment. CEA can be a good indicator in some patients ...

Re: New Member, newly diagnosed

Vent away! This is a great place for that and even more to get great information and great support. You will definitely feel more in control and less like a tornado once you have more info and a plan in place. Is your surgeon board certified in colorectal surgery? I think the term you might be talki...

Re: Question on recovery from ULAR ileo reversal

Just an anecdote but 4 weeks after surgery my mom was able to travel 1.5 hours by car to a wedding and besides a few trips to the bathroom that evening, her night was basically normal.

Re: New member - scared & looking for tips

I am sorry you find yourself here but you’ve really found a great place for information and support on this journey. When my mom was diagnosed in Oct 2018 I couldn’t even think straight for days/weeks—you can read some of my first posts here to see. The fear doesn’t necessarily go away but once you ...
