Re: What questions should I ask?

Hi Oceans, I’m hopeful that your lung nodules are not disease. Provided they aren’t you may head to surgery. Depending on what they see, my husband who was Dx stage 4 with a single liver and single lung Met did 5 rounds of Folfox prior to surgery and so I would advise you to understand the order the...

Tinnitus

Hi all, DH finished 8th round of Folfox and went for hearing test bc slight loss and ringing in one ear. He also had 9th round delayed by estimated 5 days due to low platelets. MSK takes a conservative approach to the Oxali when these symptoms emerge especially once one is past 8 rounds amd I expect...

Re: Rectal Cancer Stage 3b or 4 (Still being Diagnosed) in London England

I’m sorry you’re going through this but you’ve found a great resource. The numbers are in many ways outdated - and you are not a number. I remember at Dx they told us that there are paths to NED/cure even at stage IV and you should absolutely pursue opinions from a major cancer center that guides pe...

Re: CEA as a marker during chemo?

Hi, DH’s CEA started at 25 at Dx. After 5 rounds of neo-adj folfox it was just above 10 and three weeks after surgery/resections it was in normal range at 3. MSK did several tests throughout neo-adj and I expect that to continue as he wraps up adjuvant and continues to be monitored since directional...

Re: Stage 4 - liver mets disappeared

Congrats on your response. My DH had a complete response in liver to 5 rounds of Folfox, though they did do resection at time of colon/lung resection bc original met location meant only 8% of liver had to be removed and it allowed them to do pathology to confirm (scar tissue only). It is a very good...

Re: Newly diagnosed 36 yo male with stage IV

Hi, Sorry youve joined the club but this is a great resource. My DH received presurgery chemo (Folfox) at MSK and that has been not only successful for him but was the advice we got from all major cancer centers. Obviously follow your doctors advice, but this seems to be the protocol provided you're...

Re: Folfox - How many Oxaliplatin rounds?

Thank so much for the insights everyone. sending good thoughts your way Fluff - so many new options at major cancer centers and I am hopeful you'll quickly get to the answer and solution you need. DH did round 6 yesterday - he's sleeping now which is the best way to get through this. At pre-chemo la...

Folfox - How many Oxaliplatin rounds?

Hi all, Quick update on my DH. He had his main surgery (colon/liver/lungs) on Oct 3. Pathology came back and was very positive - all clean margins, tumors in colon and lung were about 70% smaller after 5 neo adjuvant rounds of Folfox, liver was just dead tumor (yay!) and only 1/16 nodes were positiv...

Hi and thanks for all replies! Following up to provide update My DH went thru surgery to resect colon/lung/liver and has been discharged from the hospital. It seems to have gone very well from what surgeons have told us and he was discharged a day early, as he has recovered very quickly. We wait for...

Re: Ileostomy?

Yes - he is having all three (colon, liver and lung). Liver resection is under 10% and lung met is 5mm and will be removed via Vats wedge resection. Ileostomy was his choice but oncology was happy he made that choice because no delay in mop-up which will resume ~4 weeks after surgery. It's a lot but...
