Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I basically had the same as W & W (except my 'biopsy' was a full thickness excision) and I only had a CT chest/abdomen/pelvis every 6 months. I may be cynical here, but I highly doubt that you would get your insurance company to pay for an MRI every 3 months. Like the newer W&W, my protocol...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I wrote a lengthy post about my appt @MSK this week but the draft I had saved disappeared. Here's an abbreviated replacement. (I have my first cold post-treatment and it's quite a doozy so I don't have much energy.) Interesting things to note about MSK: - My MRI @ MSK was a RECTAL MRI vs. the 3 PEL...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Jolene You should check this out. He is head of MSK Colorectal surgery and running the watch and wait study. I'm surprised you have not been advised to do full chemotherapy. It's called "consolidation" chemo and increases the chance of a full response. My opinion is that I would do eve...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

Sorry to ask a new question, but how long after radiation ended with the diaherra (for those who got it) go away? I have 3 more days (the boosts) and I am ready for this particular side effect to end. I never experienced the diarhea too much, but do notice that you are doing 28 sessions. Just wonde...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Surgeon gave me option of seeing if extra time would allow radiation to continue working and perhaps make my fat plane more distinct. But she also warned me it isn’t likely (after chemo and chemoradiation). Surgery will be quickly scheduled if nothing changed. As my cousin, who is an experienced ra...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Thanks for info and suggestion. My Rad Onc office emailed me back and said “all side effects are gone 2 weeks after radiation ends.” Ha! So my hopes to get active again if/when my treatment is over (and I have a handle on the continence situation) is a pipe dream then. Hi lakeswim glad you are feel...
