Re: Happy 11 year Cancerversay to me!!! A Stage IV colon cancer survivor!!!

Happy birthday mac.
The story improves with the retelling.
I've always had trouble seeking out help from others, even though I know the benefit is mutual.
Looking forward to hearing from you next year.

Re: Calling all JULY birthdays

I turn 65 on July 19. I have no immediate plans to retire as I've been "self employed " since 1977 and I can't think of anything better to do instead. Engineering is a bit like that.

Re: Cea

My SO had a baseline of 18,000.
I nearly fell off the chair when I heard that. Our oncologist had never seen one that high. After 5 cycles of Folfox + Avastin it was down to 2900.

Re: Why I stopped posting

At the moment I really don't have the time to engage but I feel I should put my 2 cents worth in. I am a long term member and personally am travelling along quite well. Over the years I have learnt a lot, mostly so that I could have a plan B and C in place if needed. In March my SO was diagnosed Sta...

Re: Help! Just starting on Dad's recent IIIC diagnosis

That's a pretty heavy duty chemo , particularly for a 77 year old. No-one else has mentioned this but if Oxi is scheduled, perhaps it could be 8 cycles with Oxi and 4 without. This is common practice these days. Side effects from chemo can vary significantly with chemo. I worked all the way through ...

Re: Kidneys during treatment

Kidney failure from Oxi is not that uncommon. I see a Renal Specialist for diabetic CKD ( despite maintaining an A1c < 6.0 for over 3 years. The same specialist nonchalantly advised me that after completing 12 cycles of Folfox that I had probably lost 20% kidney function from that alone ( though I h...

Re: Wasn't I enough

Hello all. Thank you all for the kind words. Especially my old friends from back in 2008. I've laid low because really there has been nothing adverse happening. After the dramas following the 1st cycle, the 2nd and 3rd cycles have passed without event. Chrissies daughter arrived at the right time bu...

Re: New here: Wife with Stage 4 colon cancer

Bernie I'm still learning about Stage IV but my SO has just completed Cycle 2 of Folfox + Avastin. The second cycle has been much easier than the 1st. You'll learn as you go. Canadiandaughter I'm rather alarmed at the high bg levels of your father. I'm assuming that he is T2. From my observations on...

You must take care of yourself first . And so should your DH.
You may be surprised that neither of you will be compromised.

Re: Wasn't I enough

I've hesitated updating recently. I have no problem discussing my own circumstances but have avoided updating Chrissie's situation.I just wasn't comfortable doing so. Port went in on the 30thMarch as scheduled but on Cycle 1, day 1 on the 31st it was found that the port was badly placed right under ...

Re: Oxi side effects question for those who never got better

Hello Diane
Never had anything like that.
I still have my old neuropathy.
My SO has also been recently been diagnosed with colon cancer ( lightning does strike twice).
Current practice is 8 consecutive rounds of oxi.

Re: Wasn't I enough

The definitive diagnosis is colon cancer with numerous large mets to the liver. Port is installed Monday next week and chemo commences next Tuesday. All up there will be 24 rounds of chemo, Folfox + Avastin, but the Oxi is omitted from rounds 9-16. I thought my 12 rounds was gruelling. This is in an...
