Re: Major cancer centers/insurance

The LLC option is very interesting. We will look into it. Did you create a business, Peanut? I think our business would show nothing but losses if we were paying for health insurance. And I have definitely heard that about Starbucks, Jannine. Might be a viable option, too. My husband and I are both ...

Major cancer centers/insurance

I am currently and thankfully NED but insurance enrollment is coming up. My husband and I retired early and because his employer (a Fortune 500 company that makes billions each year), decided to not offer any insurance options for retirees, we purchase insurance through healthcare.gov. We live in We...

Re: Time from dx to first treatment?

I was diagnosed on December 17, 2015, a couple weeks after my colonoscopy. My resection surgery was January 20, 2016 and my chemo started March 4, 2016.

Good news

I had a CT scan of pelvis, abdomen, and chest last Wednesday. I was particularly worried since I hadn't had a chest scan since before I started chemo. The radiologist faxed the report to the wrong number at the clinic, so after a long weekend, finally got the results this morning and all clear.. No ...

Re: MCV blood test

Thank you, Teddybear and rp1954.. My doctor wasn't even slightly concerned about the elevated MCV... She said it's caused by the chemo and it can take a very long time to normalize...years. I see you aren't very far out from chemo, Teddybear... My liver enzymes, etc. were also elevated for a few mon...

MCV blood test

I haven't been able to find if this topic has been discussed. Has anyone else had a high MCV test? I was normal before chemo and it was quite high during chemo but came down to close to normal after chemo but two years later is is still out of range. I had labwork this morning...Potassium is also sl...

Re: High alkaline phosphatase?

Before my final chemo treatment my alk phos was 134. A month after chemo it was still high at 122. My doctor felt it was just from the chemo. Two months later it was down to 84 and six months after that was 73. Hope that is helpful and will be your experience too.

Re: Stage 3 After Treatment Plans?

I have CT scans every 12 months and visit to oncologist with bloodwork every 6 months. I had a colonoscopy one year after my surgery and was told my next colonoscopy would be in three years. My next CT scan and doctor visit will be in October. Fingers crossed.

Re: The things people say to cancer patients

I dragged myself into work as often as I could during chemo... sometimes only once a week to try get something critical done. One day during treatment, a co-worker came in and grimly told me she just found out she had cancer too. I was devastated for her and asked what was going on. She had a basal ...

Re: Math Wizards-Xeloda (pills) vs 5FU (pump)

I think my ability to comprehend complex material has deteriorated (chemo brain?), but it sure felt like the capecitabine stayed in my system a LONG time. I felt quite ill for a solid 7 days until it was time to start the whole dang cycle again. We postponed the start of the next cycle by a day or t...

Re: Nausea/Vomiting BEFORE Chemo?

Yup. The smell of the pills and even seeing the bottle of Capecitabine could make me heave. Made it pretty difficult to get them all down and keep them down. A couple times I couldn't get every pill down at the end of the two week cycle, but I did my very best. It's all we can do.

Re: L-Glutamine

For me, the pins and needles sensitivity to cold was an immediate side effect of the oxy, wearing off over the course of several days. The neuropathy that I have is a numbness in my fingers and toes that peaked in intensity about two to three months after my chemo was all done. I still have a tiny b...
