Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Mike, I bought a lot of diapers but I only used a few, mostly in the week after surgery.

Re: Advice for caregivers

My sister was my primary caregiver. She is very calm and steadfast, but I think her stress came out through her eating habits because she probably gained 10-15 pounds since my diagnosis. Part of it was her finishing my meals that I couldn’t finish. Now that I am a few months from treatment I have st...

Re: Scan scheduled

Susan, so glad to hear you had such a good time in my town. :D It sounds like it was a restorative vacation for you. I am going out to the Black Hills to be with my extended family for a week in July. It's also my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, which we will celebrate. I can't wait! Thank you al...

I’m also pretty convinced that it has something to do with the altering of the microbiome, since it’s so connected to our immune system. That’s an interesting connection to GMO’s. I would not be surprised if that was at least part of the story.

Re: Scan scheduled

I got the MRI rescheduled for June 20 and just found out that I got insurance authorization. Glad to get that taken care of!

Re: Reversal

I also spent two nights in the hospital. I felt good enough to do a ton of walking and that helped move things along. I hope you don’t have much pain!

I agree, I did my first infusion without a port and it was extremely painful. I think in general we women have smaller veins. I would recommend getting a port - it’s not a big deal and so worth it.

Re: Scan scheduled

I redeemed the day by heading to Gilda’s Club NYC for a free yoga class. It was so nice, challenging, and refreshing. What a great institution.

Yup, the hard part of this surgery’s recovery comes after you leave the hospital. :o Keep us posted!

Re: Scan scheduled

I showed up for my MRI this morning, but I couldn’t have it done because my insurance hasn’t approved it yet. Now I have to wait for the imaging place to call to reschedule. I’m trying to schedule summer travel, etc., and I’m just going to go ahead and do it because I am fed up.

Re: Reversal

Good luck with the reversal! Be sure to have some diapers and calmoseptine ointment on hand just in case.

Re: The Miseries - But 'Hey I have it pretty good...'

I’m part of a church as well, and they were a large part of my caretaking team along with my family. I found myself just saying “thank you” a lot because I didn’t know what else to say. Also I sometimes inserted a sense of humor to help put people at ease. But you are right, your relationship with p...

Re: Scan scheduled

Thanks OSM. I am not prone to anxiety so I am hopeful that I can stay still. I have never had an MRI though. At the place I go to for scans they put me in a gown. But I'll definitely try to be as prepared as possible.

Re: Scan scheduled

I keep getting this feeling in my midsection as if my intestine is twisting or pulling. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s not pain, just a weird sensation. I’ve assumed that it’s just residual from my ileostomy reversal surgery, but of course now that I have this MRI coming up I’m paranoid that...

Re: Colon cancer screening at 45 - New guidelines

I had the same experience. Spent almost a year experiencing bleeding while I was treated for internal hemorrhoids and told I didn't need a colonoscopy by one GI doc. Finally his partner in the practice agreed to do it. So glad for this new recommendation.
