Re: Rectal Cancer, Folfox, and side effects

My voice got really raspy right after Oxi, and I continue to get a dry throat after talking too much. I’m on my last day of Xeloda and it’s still an issue. I’ve been using a lot of cough drops. This is definitely a side effect - don’t worry about lung mets.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I had to switch to convex wafers as well. I have lots of flat ones to give away. Nobody told me to use convex until I finally saw a competent stoma nurse.

Re: Post Surgery Help and CEA

rp1954, can you tell me how your wife takes curcumin? Is it in pill or powder form? I am planning to start taking it but want to make sure it has maximum effectiveness. I think I read on another board how to do this, but it was a bit confusing.

Re: Cause of colon cancer discovered

We are all three identical sisters. I should look into case studies.

Re: Reversal is Over

How much time have you taken off work? Has it mainly been to stabilize any bowel issues? I am nervous because my reversal is on March 12, and I have only requested one week off. Should I stay home the second week? I have a key hire to make and need to do some interviews, but am anxious that I won’t ...

Re: oxaliplatin

I had my last dosage dropped to 50% because of fatigue and some neuropathy. My onc was even open to cancelling it because it was the last one.

Re: Cause of colon cancer discovered

I never drank or drink diet soda, but I'm sure there were environmental and food factors that played into my diagnosis, combined with an unlucky random mutation. I mentioned on a previous thread that I have lived with one of my triplet sisters for the last decade, and we have essentially had a simil...

Re: Possibly unnecessary open liver surgery

NHMike, I don’t mean to butt in, but you should use those “favors” more often! Don’t think of them as favors, but rather as people offering to do what you would do for them in the same situation. When I read about you clearing snow off the roof after Oxaliplatin, I almost can’t believe it. I’ve had ...

I don’t know, I will have to ask him. I’m thinking at least two years is OK.

Re: Possibly unnecessary open liver surgery

This seems like a good recommendation for anyone, regardless of CRC diagnosis.

On the recommendation of an integrative care doctor, I’m going to start taking baby aspirin and curcumin tablets daily to reduce risk of recurrence.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Sorry about your side effects. I just had my last infusion at a 50% reduction, and while the cold sensitivity is basically non-existent (yay!) I'm still experiencing fatigue. I slept about nine hours last night, and now I feel like I need another nap. Granted this reflects cumulative side effects, b...

Re: Single and dealing

I've been using CaringBridge since diagnosis. I had followed other friends on there. It's a useful resource, especially for updating people on your progress. I haven't used it for tasks and gifts, but I'm sure it's useful for that as well. You have to invite people to follow your private site - it i...

Re: Single and dealing

Don’t feel guilty asking! I have a “team” of people helping and I’ve learned to just accept their help and let them know what I need. I am also single and have a cat, although I do live with my sister which helps. I’ve always been independent but had to learn how to accept help.

Re: Reversal surgery

Thank you Susie! My 36th birthday is on Saturday and this is the best birthday present! I’m having a big party on Sunday night to celebrate. Invited all the people who have been supporting me all along. Thinking of having blue cupcakes and a cancer dartboard.
