Re: Adverse reaction to capecitabine?

I second what Beth ( Stewsbetty ) has written. I had a cardiac incident on first infusion of 5FU and was almost gone . Then I was shifted to xeloda ( which is 5fu in tablet form) . Didn't do a bit for me except 6 months of pure suffering and misery. Besides disease progressed from stage 3 to stage 4...

Re: Colon cancer and dentistry questions and CEA question

I have not lost any teeth but have cracked a tooth and got deep cavities in another two. Dentist says it is due to reduced salivation and wanted root canal. But Med oncologist has forbidden the same. Thankful to have survived with a couple of lost teeth and occasional bone and muscle pain. The reas...

Re: It's baaaaaaack!

Mike,
I would advise being on rolls till you are out of woods with at least current episode.
Wait till your recovery from surgeries and chemos to make your decision.
You have backing of a good employer. Keep that.
Best of luck and stay strong.

Re: Beansmama is gone.

My medical oncologist refused to allow a root canal saying he cannot risk any sort of sudden shock to immune system while I am on a immunotherapy regime. I discussed BeansMama and he said that surgery or any other sudden change can be fatal for patient on drugs like Opdivo or Keytruda since they are...

Re: Keytruda? What else is new?

Hello Have been declared NED with clear CT and normal CEA Levels of 1.5 . To continue with Opdivo for now. May stop after 6 months or a year. Oncologist doesn't want to risk a relapse and taking conservative approach. Will update in detail later. Yea! Yea! Yea! So excited to hear this. I hope to jo...

Re: Made it to 2 year mark...

When my husband developed Stage 4 rectal cancer 2 years ago, the prognosis was not good. They gave him months to live and said he probably wouldnt make it to the 2 years mark. Thanks to the information, advice, and support from this board we were able to advocate to use Keytruda and he has been doi...

Re: Keytruda? What else is new?

Thanks. Oncologist has warned that with immunotherapy we are playing with a very tricky system of body, the immune system. We are not merely strengthening it but rather changing it. We should avoid any sudden changes or shocks to immune system such as surgery ( I remembered Beamsmama) or even sudden...

Re: Trying Keytruda Off-Label (MSS with a Twist)

UPDATE: I had one treatment and 3 weeks later my CEA has gone from 39.4 to 60.1....so I am thinking that Keytruda is not working for me. I had my second treatment but I don't expect it to help. (MY oncologist said it may be too early to make that determination...). Just wanted to update you all on ...

Re: Switching back to Pembro

Even my oncologist has asked me to be off any supplements. I only take aspirin on his advice and occasional curcumin tablets. These immunotherapy drugs are so new that doctors don't have data on drug interactions. If I understood the paper on Vit D and pdl1, it may be harmful at high doses. Please c...

Re: My CEA just came back at 447. Please Help!

Teresa, My cea levels too went crazy after completing Chemo. Unfortunately the beast had come back with a vengeance. And it didn't respond to any line of the chemos. Luckily, immunotherapy seems to have worked out fine. You have written colon gene. What do you mean by that? Is it Lynch syndrome. Als...

Re: Switching back to Pembro

Hi guys, Those of you who are on pembro or Opdivo, have you considered adding aspirin to your daily regime. Please discuss with your med oncologist. It seems at least opdivo gives a better bite for the buck in combination with aspirin. http://www.bioworld.com/content/nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory-d...
