Re: 30-40 Grams of Fiber Per Day !!!

I use Nopalina, a fiber mix one of my coworkers has taken for years. I used to be afraid of fiber, convinced it would constipate me after a bad experience with Metamucil and inadequate fluid intake years ago. I tend toward constipation these days since I take immodium every morning to keep my spazzy...

Re: To port or not for Oxi

I did 6 rounds of oxaliplatin without a port. We decided that if I had to do more we would get a port. My only side effect from IV oxy was a stiff, tingly arm after infusion - only lasted a few days and didn't hinder my daily life. Remember , you can always start with IV and switch to a port if you...

Re: PET Scan Results - More Cancer???

Just curious: since he is currently post surgical, do you have him on the cimetidine and / or modified citrus pectin to reduce chances of post surgical metasis?

Re: PET Scan Results - More Cancer???

I took glutamine(15-30 grams/day) l-carnitine(1000 -2000mg) , plus oral magnesium (1gram) and calcium (1 gram) the day of chemo (and for 5 days after chemo on the glutamine and l-carnitine). Plus 100 mg B-6 daily throughout. I was able to complete the entire course of chemo with full oxi dose withou...

Re: PET Scan Results - More Cancer???

I did take all my rounds of Oxi through the veins as I did not want a port. It did burn for a day or two afterwards each time but is definitely doable.

Re: Is bowel regularity possible after reversal?

Just over a year out from surgery and although I do have a routine, I can lead a pretty normal life: work full time, travel, shop, etc. I take two immodium and 1 Tylenol with codeine 300-30 every morning around 8:45 am. (The codeine is for the radiation proctitis- I have discomfort without it but th...

Re: Xeloda and Bleeding

Thank you for everyone's replies. I currently am taking no supplements beyond my normal prescriptions. I do go to Simmons Cancer Center at UTSW in Dallas and the pharmacist at the hospital has been helpful several times. As an update, I went to see my radiation doc last week after the diagnosis of r...

Re: Xeloda and Bleeding

I had read your original post, but just didn't have any advice to give you - other than asking if your oncologist knows about the supplements you are taking. I'm sorry you've been going through such a hard time and I'm glad you're being taken care of now. I hope you're feeling better soon. Thank yo...

Re: Xeloda and Bleeding

If anyone is curious, my last chemo was deferred until I had a colonscopy, the results are hemorrhagic radiation proctitis, a late radiation effect: Marked edema of the rectum to the level of the colorectal anastomosis. The rectal mucosa is characterized by pallor with intense friability, and multip...

Xeloda and Bleeding

I have one round of Xelox left, but have been having a great deal of trouble with increasing tenesmus and gastrointestinal bleeding and blood clots the last few rounds. I self reported this to Oncologist 2 rounds ago, he said it was late effects of radiation and would go away after I was done. Meanw...

Re: Xeloda regimen not indicated for Curative?

Honestly, my oncologist started me off with the one week one/one week off to "minimize toxicity". I have had very minimal side effects and when I researched the one /one schedule, I found very few references to it and most of them from 2011. So I insisted on going onto the 2 weeks on one w...
