Re: Last Chemo Today!

F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!!! Congratulations for your DH! And for you! Getting through chemo is huge! Keep in mind that the physical/emotional side-effects will not dissipate over night, however. At least for me, coming off my chemotherapy regimens were always a mixture of joy, anxiety, and adjustment. Co...

Re: Maryland Support Groups?

Hello L2Saint,

I live in Towson. I am interested in starting/participating in a support group. I've been kind of on the fence about it since I've never participated in a support group. But if we get some momentum I'm open to participating.

Thanks for reaching out!

Re: Gas!!!

Quite literally, the only good thing about having my colon completely removed back in February is that my gas isn't as bad as it was for the 9 months after my initial resection. I really thought my kids were going to disown me! It was like a national emergency every day there for a while.

Re: I need a suggestion

Any doctor who is not willing to prescribe anti-anxiety meds when a cancer patient requests them needs to have their medical license revoked in my opinion. Whether you are just having one surgery, or going through a year-long chemotherapy grind, it doesn't matter -- medications are justified. Person...

Re: Huge respect for you Northern Hemisphereites

Thanks, Aussie. This message really resonates with me. I live in Baltimore, Maryland in the USA and had a lot of my chemo in the winter. The cold sensitivity to Oxaliplatin was probably the worst side-effect I experienced. The cold air wasn't pleasant but like jhocno197 mentioned finding something t...

Re: Survey on bad habits

I was exposed to second-hand smoke for 21 years. Never really smoked cigarettes except for one or two at a bar when I was in college. I smoked a lot of weed but not so much for the last 10 years before diagnosis. I definitely drank too much before diagnosis. Didn't eat very much red meat at all. Was...

Congratulations, Lisa!!!!! Hang in there - you are a real trooper and an example to us all. BTW - I received your PM but the system will not allow me to respond -- you probably have Private Messages toggled off on Board Preferences. Shoot me another quick message when you've changed it and I can wri...

Re: Newly Diagnosed from overseas. Moving back to the US

Hello Catherine G, I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I second the advice of Cowgirl1918 and Sams Wife. Since you have already had surgery, it is not clear to me from your message whether you will need surgery again or not. But if you do need surgery, finding a top-notch surgeon is in my view ...

Re: How to cope with an "affair" when terminally ill (sorry, it's long)

There is a lot of sage advice here and, Orissia, this is a brutal, terrible situation you are in. No doubt about it. I don't have any answers, and it is really hard for outsiders to give advice when they don't have a good handle on the real situation. Nevertheless, I wanted to put forward one or two...

Re: Cancer Causes

I definitely drank too much, especially leading up to diagnosis, probably because I was using alcohol to help numb the pain in my stomach and other stresses in my life. Was it the alcohol? Very well may have been, although I have friends and relatives who drank a LOT more than me that haven't gotten...

Re: I'm scared

That is great news indeed! Yes, I too have a nodule on my lung. It is stable and they didn't even mention it until a couple of scans ago. They have to watch it but it appears that it is not cancerous (knock on wood). I am glad that yours is stable too! Hang in there and get through that Adjuvant che...
