It is always good to read what works for other people, because we are all different. I take multi vitamin, Vit D and Vit C. Very basic. I eat basically what I feel like. Most things will give me the runs within 2 hours anyway, so I figure I should at least enjoy eating if I have to suffer the conseq...
Shortly after surgery I had very bad back pain. Turned out the pain med I was taking was masking the pain for urinating. My lower back hurt because I had a bladder infection and needed an antibiotic. Sometimes we jump to the worst conclusions. I totally understand that. But see if you can get a simp...
2nd opinion! When my lung met showed up my onc wanted to try different chemos, up the scans schedule and see what was effective. Well, what if it was not effective? I wanted it out! Oncologists are not surgeons. I got a referral to Mass General surgeon from my PC and he did Lung VATS surgery right a...
I did 12 rounds of Folfox. My platelets did not always co-operate, so toward the end it was usually every 3 weeks instead of every other. I started at the 100% strength and after maybe 5(?) treatments, dropped it down to 80%. I knit all through chemo (although very slowly) and most every day walked ...
Sounds like they took care of you fast and efficiently! Speedy recovery. I always beg to stay an extra day so the hospital pharmacy can fill my RX, etc.
This happened to me too. Get a remote controlled fan!!! On. Off. On. Off...all without having to get up, out of bed. I tell all my friends...a remote controlled fan is your best friend during this time!
Just a note about traveling...because my rectum was removed, I sometimes am hit hard with the runs, when out and about. I always wear Depends when I go out. I have a zippered bag that I keep extra leggings, 2 Depends, wet wipes, 2-3 plastic bags, a pair of socks and a few RX pills for anti-diareah i...
Congratulations on the 12th! I had alot of advice from well meaning friends/family who read 8 is an option sometimes in Europe. But my DR wanted me to do all 12, so I stuck with it. It took me time to get used to being off chemo because I lost so much weight and was very week... and they take away t...
I have no bowel and the DRs had to cut into my sphincter muscles to get clear margins. Due to an infection, I had my reversal very soon. I do remember the 1st 2 weeks of very painful clustering, but they gave me strong pain killer and told me to try to time things around that. But it hurt like crazy...
6.6 mm met in lung. They tried to talk me into chemo and watching to see how it reacts. No thanks! Had it removed by VATS at Mass General and THEN did the follow up chemo. Since then, my scans are clear. I had no idea how much chemo would affect me. I went from 150 to 103 pounds. I am happy I had th...
What an amazing story...and that you were so quiet about it that so many of your friends did not know. 10 years is a wonderful milestone. Thank you for sharing your story.
I was so sick in Austria. My doctors asked if I had made arrangements for my son. I think other countries are just straight up frank. Not that they were saying I was dying, but that I would have less stress knowing these things were taken care of. And you know what...whatever you set up, you can cha...
