Re: Colon cancer: my treatment and side effects

Having my port inserted hurt more than I imagined, but that pain wore off in a few days. Like a bee string and I could not raise my hand over my head. It was not really noticiable at first. Now I weigh 106 at 5'8" and the 3 prongs and tubing sticks out. I do not like anything rubbing on it...li...

Re: Short Term (5 Days) Radiation - Side Effects?

I had 5 weeks of radiation, but kept notes on this board about how I was feeling each week. Maybe something in there would help you. I would buy some depends and gentle wet wipes to have on hand just in case you get diareah. But, I am not even sure you would get that. The thing to remember is that o...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectum cancer

It is very important to have a board certified surgeon do your surgery.

It can be a bumpy road, but this group has always been here for me. It is a goid place for information, support and venting to people who truly do understand what you are going through.

Re: Tips for a Folfox newbie – starting Tuesday

You got lots of good tips! I would add...make friends with the oncology nurse. She/he will be able to help you more than the receptionist! My nurse was often available when the DR was not. She also could call in basic RX to the pharmacy. Of course, some RX have to be on the blue paper now a days bec...

Stage 4 to a clear PET!

After almost 2.5 years...a clear PET!!! My CT scan had showed possible lung thingies again. So, I was bracing for the PET results. My sister and I looked at each other and then asked my oncologist if she had the right patient on the screen. We did not want to celebrate prematurely! We just lost a si...

Re: ER Visit

I hope you are feeling better by the time you leave for vacation. Can you do liquid protein drinks? Ensure never agrees with me, but I get a powdered plant protein that I blend with Almond milk and banana. Nutritionalist told me today to try pea milk to boost the protein content. Can you go to your ...

Re: Weight gaining?

I am struggling with weight gain myself. 106 pounds at 5'8". Up 2 pounds! I had a meeting with a nutrionalist today. I am 3 months off Folfox. Because of ongoing diarrhea issues, despite the Sandstatin shot every month and 6-8 Lomotol every day...it has been hard for me. Maybe he could meet wit...

Re: Totally O/T

Thank you for all you do and involvement on this board. Beautiful sentiment. I just lost a sister last month to cancer. We used to try to get chemo chairs together this past winter.

May we all be shining stars, whether here on earth or up above.

Re: Port removed

Congrats on having your port removed. I have finished 12 rounds of Folfox and my oncologist wants me to keep my port for a year. That gave me a bit of a shock at first, but it has been a great port with no problems, so a year it is. But yes, in the back of my mind...I do worry that she thinks I will...

Re: neutropenia and diet, early in treatment: ugh.

Toward the end of my treatments we went to a 3 week schedule instead of every 2 weeks. My white blood cell counts were always high thanks to Neulasta injection, but my platlets were always too low at the 2 week mark. I called the Neulasta shot my Robo-shot. The thing automatically knows when to inje...

Re: PERMANENT COLOSTOMY/VS RESTRUCTURE

I hope you have a board certified colo-rectal surgeon. I never heard of a colostomy being a guarantee not to have cancer anymore! I would go get a 2nd opinion. It does not sound like your current DR really explained things to you. Or, does your DR have a good nurse who can help You? My oncologist ha...

Re: All Looking Pretty Good

That is really great news! My tumor only shrunk slightly over 50% with the radiation/chemo treatment. Stubborn thing! Very happy for you...you just don't know how it all worked until that scan.

Excited about a root canal!

Yay! Finally, after months of chemo I got my root canal. A few months ago the tooth broke in half. My dentist offered to pull it when I got authorization from oncologist. She said no dental work at all during chemo. And my tooth was really hurting! I did not want my tooth pulled, so went to another ...

Re: Freaking Out a Little

The good news is that your signature lists scans being good so far. CEA has never been a good marker for me. I finished my 12 rounds of Folfox in late April. Had CT scan in mid-June which was questionable. My PET scan is scheduled for next week. In the meantime, I booted it over to Europe with my 15...
