Re: As we come up on a year

I am sorry for your losses. Thank you for this important post. My own son is 14. We tried different therapists and a light anti depressant. He hated both, so I let him stop. I knew I had to keep looking for ways to help him. He has found his happy spot with horses and enjoys Boy Scouts. His dad surv...

Yes! Anytime I hear of a long term NED, it gives me the boost of confidence and strength to face another chemo day. Thanks to all who continue to post!

Last Folfox (#12) on Friday!

My last Folfox treatment is scheduled for Friday, provided my platlets are good. We switched from every 2 weeks to 3 weeks because my counts have been too low at the 2 week mark. I met with my oncologist today. She said for me to keep my port for about a year. Baseline CT scan 8 weeks after last che...

Re: Help dealing with Health Anxiety/Panic

I saw a psychiatrist DR a few months ago through my regular medical clinic and he prescribed a low dose anti depressant/anti anxiety. It has helped me a lot and when I get through this, I can always go off. I had my reversal and then a year later had a met, so am doing Folfox with no stoma. I always...

Re: colon mass detected during pelvic exam...?

I had my standard pelvic exam in November. The DR always did a finger rectal exam. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in February. I went to the ER because I pools of blood going into the toilet. The doctors there sure could feel it. They had other doctors come in to feel it so they could learn. I h...

Re: Folfox Allergy

The only thing I can offer is my own experience. Within the first couple of treatments on Folfox, I lost almost all my hair! My oncologist was very surprised. I guess there are no guarantees. It has been 3.5 weeks since my last Folfox, but my labs showed platlets at 85 yesterday so we are waiting to...

Re: Done with chemo

Congrats! I was due for #9 today, but now put off another week due to low platlets...and it has already been 3 weeks. My DR did say the very end might be harder and certainly my platlets are taking their sweet time regenerating. But only 3 more to go...so close, but also seems far away. And there yo...

Re: My 35 year old wife got diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer with peritoneal mets

I am sorry to hear your story...but keep pushing forward! I just finished #9 of 12 Folfox treatments. They put the Zolfran in to the IV to help with naseua. Plus they give me 1 ativan as soon as my labs come in saying chemo is a go for the day. I have ativan and Zolfran at home too. What has helped ...

Re: Any Stage IV currently in NEDville? Please share any advice or tips? P

Dates are in my signature. Even though I am still doing Folfox (3 more out of 12 to go!), I consider myself NED because my scans are showing nothing! Hoping this round lasts longer than a year, I really think it will. Since main surgery, salad goes right through me...within 1 hour. So, I will only e...

Re: Bowel prep - Does it ever get easier?!?!

I have found it easiest with NO fast food or processed foods for 3 days prior. 24 hours prior...only soup BROTH, clear drinks. And when it comes to drinking the stuff...I time how much I have to drink in 15 minute increments and drink through a wide straw. I think I must have tried every prep, inclu...

Re: Scheduled for sigmoidoscopy

I had a sig scope not that long ago. Blood on poo, often pencil thin output, one time a pool of blood came out of me. Sounded to me like a tumor had come back even though I am currently on Folfox. GI DR diagnosed me over the phone as bleeding hemeroids and called in an RX for a cream. Oh, I was anno...

Re: OTC Suggestions for Nausea from Oxaliplatin

Real grated ginger root into your tea with honey. Let it steep and then drain the root out. My naseua has increased some with treatment. I eat very lightly before and after. Yesterday an apple scone before and snack pack applesauce after. Milk seems to make everything worse. I go for hydration 4 x a...
