Split-Dose Bowel Prep: What's the Logic?

I'm prepping for my every-three-years follow-up colonoscopy this week and have to do the PEG (GoLytely) split-dose prep.

Does anyone know what the upside is to doing a split dose vs. all at once? Because the only thing better than bowel prep is getting up at 2am to finish it.

Re: not a fan of the "new normal"

I prefer the phrase "new reality." There's nothing normal about this "new normal."

That said, I successfully ran a marathon last November. Neuropathy and my stupid bowels aren't the boss of me. :)

Re: Accupuncture and Neuropathy

While I enjoyed acupuncture overall it did nothing for my neuropathy (or infertility). :-(

Re: Tinnitus and Neuropathy what a lovely cocktail!

I also developed tinnitus after chemo *and* was told that it wasn't a side effect. Uh huh. :-/

Re: Having babies after chemo

I tried IVF after chemo/radiation/surgery. Despite my having my period and "feeling" fertile, my ovaries refused to play ball. :-(

(Just my one data point.)

Re: Hospital Bill Rant... and an idea

I wonder- are there any agencies that help cancer patients navigate the billing/ insurance nightmare? If not, there should be! Does anyone know if this kind of thing exists? Try The Center for Patient Partnerships--they have law students (based right here at UW Madison!) volunteering their services...

Re: Neuropathy

My CIPN spiked about 6 weeks after finishing FOLFOX. The bad news is that was just over five years ago. The good news is that the shooting pains & burning are mostly manageable with Gabapentin (1800mg/d). :) The GREAT news is that I completed a full marathon last month despite it all. :D

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I've been too superstitious to post in this thread until now: I celebrated my 5 year anniversary of completing chemo a few weeks ago. Between that and my complete response to radiation, I'm comfortable saying it should be smooth sailing from here on out. In other news, I'm running my first marathon ...

Re: Neuropathy after folfox

Not to be a buzzkill, but I've had my CIPN (chemo-induced neuropathy) for nearly five years. It gets better...unless it doesn't. I would suggest trying acupuncture (the acupuncturist that works in our cancer clinic said that she mine is the most stubborn case she's ever seen and that she might have ...

Re: Tooting My Own Horn (toot toot!)

Thx, everyone! I'm actually wondering if I need to have my head checked as I do some initial googling about marathon training plans... ;)

Best to all of my chemosabes!

Tooting My Own Horn (toot toot!)

Hey all--Just wanted to let you know that I've had chemo-induced neuropathy for nearly f̶o̶u̶r̶--oops, FIVE!--years but I didn't let it stop me from running my first half marathon! Finished 13.1 miles in 2:10:00 yesterday. Feeling pretty bad @$$ (and *wicked* pooped)! Just another day of giving canc...

Re: annoying ringing in ears

I started noticing tinnitus in both ears about three years after finishing treatment. They gave me a head MRI & tested my hearing--all came back normal.

Don't know if this was from FOLFOX or attending too many rock shows in my hipper days. ;)

Re: Nutrition/lifestyle changes

I was a 10-year vegetarian when I was diagnosed. Since that obviously wasn't the answer [for me], I now eat meat & avoid processed foods.

Re: Fighting Neuropathy

I've had Oxi neuropathy for nearly four years (fingertips but mostly feet & legs). I've tried just about everything under the sun to no avail, so the best advice I can give is what my onc told me: I'll get better...unless it doesn't.
