Re: Difficult Recovery after Ileorectal Anastomosis

Sorry to hear what you are going through. If you are still experiencing symptoms, I think it warrants a call to your surgeon, just in case something else is going on like adhesions or some other blockage.

Re: An aspirin a day helps keep bowel cancer away

I'm surprised more bowel cancer patients aren't prescribed daily aspirin. I have read about other studies which have shown aspirin reduces your risk for stroke and heart attack too. Unfortunately I'm on anticoagulants for life, so I am not able to take aspirin (too much of a bleeding risk).

Vent away, you have every reason to. But I'm glad to hear your husband was finally admitted and that the doctors said he is doing fine. Hope you can get those test results soon so you have some answers!

Re: Meningitis

That sounds like downright negligence. Such a high fever and seizure alone should get him admitted for observation. Can your oncologist call the ED and advocate for him? Have you tried going to a different hospital? Is he taking anything to help bring the fever down? I would keep pushing until you a...

Re: Time

I am deciding if treatment make sense. I can go anywhere in the world to die. Have you considered it? My kids are 16 and 18. They will survive. Unless I have hope for treatment, I don’t want to do it. Did you hear something about your recent scans? What did your doctors say about the enlarged lymph...

Re: Colon cancer in distant colon lymph node

I'm so sorry to hear of your recurrence, Andrea. I was diagnosed around the same time as you in 2016 and I remember your story very well and reading all of your messages. Yes, there are other things that can cause lymph nodes to enlarge, like a mild infection or illness. I had a few enlarged nodes o...

Re: Blood in stool after resection

Thank you for the replies. I really appreciate it. I have a follow up appointment on april 3rd with the surgeon. The oncologist said he recomends xeloda tablet chemo "just in case" because they only retrieved 2 lymphnodes. But that it was up to me and there was really no wrong answer? The...

Re: Results are back and scared :(

So sorry to hear what you are going through. Waiting for results is terrible and I think everyone on this forum can empathise with you. Can you organise an earlier appointment if the results are already back with your family doctor? For what it's worth, even if it's a benign polyp, I think the docto...

Re: A freakin hernia now

Sorry to hear that, I hope it is not painful. There are things you can do to try to avoid a hernia getting larger, like avoiding certain abdominal exercises, but unfortunately there's not really anything you can do to shrink a hernia. I had the same problem, a hernia right next to my ileostomy. When...

Very sorry for what you are going through. It must be especially difficult knowing you have a baby on the way. You have come to the right place on this forum, and by the sounds of it you have done your research and are taking all the right steps. 20mm is not very large so hopefully it has been caugh...

Re: Reversal post-op nightmare :(

So sorry to hear what your mother is going through! I had an ileus during my recovery - lots of nausea and vomiting green bile and had the NG put back in, but it passed after a few days and I was eating solids within a week. The surgery shocks your digestive system and can cause it to become tempora...

Re: CRC hitting young people more frequently

CRC in young people has been increasing since well before 1994. The chance of a young person getting CRC in 1990 was already double that of 1950 (source: https://www.bowelcanceraustralia.org/never-too-young). From what I've read, scientists are unsure exactly why the incidence of CRC in young people...

Re: Colonoscopy Soon, Am I Overreacting?

No, you aren't overreacting. You are doing the right thing by getting a colonoscopy. Your symptoms could be caused by lots of things other than cancer, but blood and especially mucus in your stools is not normal and should always be investigated.

Re: Adenoma Polyp at 20

Yes, removing polyps is a preventative measure, much like removing suspicious moles to prevent skin cancer. I would push for an earlier scope though, maybe 1-2 years. If nothing is found, you can space them out further. 20 is young to have polyps, so you might have some genetic predisposition to them.
