3 years in remission - having digestive issues

Anyone else start having digestive issues a few years AFTER colon surgery/chemo? I had my last sigmoidoscopy/endoscope Nov 1st and everything was clear. I also had pain last year in my torso and was sent for ultra sounds and everything came back fine. However now, every time after I eat I start feel...

Re: What did you tell the kids?

My daughters were 7 and 1 1/2 when I was diagnosed and my oldest daughter was actually in the room with us when I woke up from the colonoscopy and the GI told us I had cancer. She cried and asked if I was going to die and it was at that moment that I put my own fears aside and knew that I was NOT go...

Re: Neuropathy and effect of chemo?

I'm not aware of any studies, but I was immediately sensitive to the FOLFOX regime of drugs that was administered in round 1 (cold sensitivity in mouth and hands, nausea, etc). I also had very bad reaction to the 5FU in these drugs, so I was switched to XELODA (oral chemo +infusion), but would still...

Re: Freaking out about reoccurrence!

Sorry for the late response - the good news is just that...it turned out to be nothing to worry about :) So as of today (2+ years out), still NED and trying to put cancer behind me :) Thanks for the reply and kind words. :D It's hard to handle this kind of stress/anxiety and I know that only people ...

Re: Xeloda for Stage II - did you work?

I switched to Xeloda for the last 3-8 rounds of chemo (bad reaction to 5FU via IV for rounds 1-2), and it was...ok. I work from home (lots of computer clicking!) and couldn't even sit long enough at the computer to justify working :/ I also have hardly any colon left, so bathroom issues while on che...

It's hard to handle this kind of stress/anxiety and I know that only people on this board will really understand what it's like. It's hard to keep a positive outlook all the time, but I know I have to keep fighting to stay positive.

Freaking out about reoccurrence!

I know I shouldn't be freaking out, but I can't help it. In November my chest x-ray showed a 6mm spot on my lung. My Onc scheduled me for CT chest scan and blood work that I had done this past week. I find out the results from this scan on Thursday. Today I received results from blood work and CEA h...

Re: Folflox - Cardiac arrest after 3rd treatment / 35 y/o m

Thank you for the responses. My cardiologist is still searching for answers and I am switching chemo doctors as she has been very unhelpful since this has happened. Going to visit some of the bigger centers, Moffett, Florida Cancer Institute, and go back to Cleveland clinic and get an opinion from ...

Re: 4 years after lung met, and still no evidence of disease

Thank you so much for posting this! I find out in January when I do a chest CT scan if I do indeed have a met in my lung...trying to keep my thoughts positive about it all.

Congrats on being NED and thank you again for sharing your story!

Re: Stage 4 Made It To 5 Years

Wow - that is wonderful! Thank you for posting! I am 14 months out since my surgery (and after 8 rounds of FOLFOX/Xeloda). My last X-ray about 3 weeks ago showed a small nodule on my lung. Dr thinks it's probably just a shadow, but is making me do a chest CT scan in January to check it out. I've bee...

Re: Newly Diagnosed. Nervous about Chemo

Your story sounds similar to mine - I was 32 years old when I was diagnosed last year and had zero history (and zero family history) of hardly any major medical conditions, let alone cancer! My stage 3 cancer diagnosis with 2/55 lymph nodes involved was shocking. After I recovered from surgery, I st...

Re: what is a normal weight loss for CRC surgery and chemo?

I lost 15 pounds post surgery (I was in the hospital for 11 days). Then I lost another 10-15 pounds during chemo. I have been off chemo for 9 months now and have gained 15 pounds back!

Re: Sudden death with Folfox?

I was never officially tested for DPD but showed almost 100% of the symptoms from it (thankfully it wasn't actually 100% or I probably would be dead) after my first FOLFOX round. I am in the USA and I do not believe that DPD testing pre-treatment is standard either as less than 10% of people have is...

Re: Starting Folfox on Monday

Everyone has given you great advice so far, so I would just say that if you have an overall sensitivity to medications (like I do) ask for as many anti-nausea medications that you can get your hands on. Make sure that you write down and report ANY symptoms and report them to your onc, no matter how ...
