Xeloda, Avastin, post nasal drip and a cough

Anyone had trouble with this?

I have congestion balling up in the base of my throat. My nose runs like a river, inside and out. And late day, I find myself trying to cough the congestion up. It's worse now, with allergies part of the equation.

Any thoughts and advice?

Re: Anemia while taking xeloda and avastin UPDATE Elevated CA125

Exactly what's going on with me right now. Hgb has dropped steadily since February, when we discovered my insurance pharmacy had been feeding me half the Xeloda dosage intended by my doctor - 1500 mg a day instead of 3000. Since the dosage has been corrected, I've had some bleeding for a day or two ...

Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

As much as I try to avoid it, absolutely. My scan is tomorrow, results on Tuesday - I always get a weekend to putter around the house and convince myself that it's time to buy a cemetery plot. This one, though, is a little different after the set-to with Cigna, my insurance company and specialty pha...

Re: Bowel "Urgency" - help!

Okay, so. Stage IV rectal cancer w/lung mets, no surgeries, just radiation & chemo, diagnosed ~2.5 years ago. Here's my problem: I seem to have lost strength entirely in my sphincter muscles. When my upper colon decides it's time to move a "package" along, I have to be able to recogni...

Re: Things Not to Say and the Responses I want to Make (Rant)

I can relate to your statements! When faced with my own medical crisis back in November, I was scared and turned to my family. My sister's answer was, " I knew people who lived with a bag in college and they did just fine." Who the heck says that to someone, let alone your own sibling? Ug...

Re: Things Not to Say and the Responses I want to Make (Rant)

I think that how a person handles the dissemination of information about their disease is an individual issue. I have a bit of a public persona so going underground with my treatment isn't an option. Being open has its downside, but it also has given me greater control of how people act toward me, e...

Re: Pills vs. Pump

I absolutely hated the pump. I felt like people were staring at me the entire time I wore it. Very self-conscious about it. I wore a jacket over it all last summer, and died from the heat just to keep people from staring. As for the port ... the surgeon who installed mine didn't do a perfect job. I ...

Re: Xeloda VS 5-FU

Peter, I've done them both. I'm on Xeloda and Avastin right now, and my tumor is shrinking significantly and the lung things are remaining quite small - a better response than the infusion 5 FU. I've had my moments with Xeloda and Avastin - I get a serious diarrhea attack on Thursday night after a T...

Some good scan news

After a six-day wait for CT results - ugh, the mind can become a torture chamber - mine revealed shrinkage of the tumor. And since CT isn't the best way to gauge that, my onc says that shrinkage that's obvious there means real shrinkage.

CEA was 1.0

Xeloda and Avastin are working.

Re: How long until you see light at the end of the tunnel?

Absolutely I have felt that way. I lost my Mom - my number one supporter - two months into this journey as well, and if it wasn't for friends - my blood family is a useless collection of greedy, self-absorbed narcissists - I don't know what I would have done. Many is the time I have asked God to tak...

Re: Why are some people so insensitive?

My story is a different subject, the loss last May of my Mom as my treatment was kicking off, but equally insensitive. About a month ago, a former work colleague sat down as I was eating lunch alone in a restaurant and angrily informed me, "I lost my Mom when she was 35. Your Mom was elderly. Y...
