Re: Health Insurance Help

It is really hard. I was in a somewhat similar situation but I was able to afford cobra thankfully. My employer was not nice and when I told them I had cancer they laid me off. You are correct cobra payments are usually pretty brutal I pay almost as much my mortgage. It is not easy but Obamacare for...

Re: Stage 1 with no surgery...any thoughts?

I know how you feel with the wait and see approach. It is very hard mentally. I did it for six months and got scans. The scans were clear. But I had one doctor say you do not need surgery and I had one doctor say I needed surgery. I talked to people on this board and read other posts and I concluded...

Re: Rectal Cancer - Standard of Care Approach or Neoadjuvant Chemo approach???

Always a hard choice. I started my cancer journey with the my doctor finding a polyp and he cut it out. He stated I was stage 1 and should do the wait and see approach. He would monitor me closely. I did this for six months but I educated myself during this period. During this period I got second op...

Re: T1 rectal cancer and LVI

I would get a second opinion. I did wait and see for 6 months because I listened to the doctor who found my polyp. I was T1 and he felt he cut it all out. I went to for 2nd opinion and they said I needed surgery. I did get the surgery and it saved my life. The cancer had moved and it was heading tow...

Re: Neuropathy treatments

My neuropathy started near the end of my six month chemo. It good progressively worse in the beginning. First the doctor had me try vitamins it helped a little. I then tried acupuncture and it helped some. The doctor then put me on Cymbalta after six months but it had bad side effects( sexual dysfun...

Re: 43 Year Old Wife Diagnosed with Rectal Cancer. I'm very scared.

In my opinion always good to see oncologist also. In my case surgeon told me I did not need to see oncologist that he believed he removed all the cancer. I went on a wait and see for six months. The surgeon did blood work and scans and said everything was good. I was not comfortable with not seeing ...

Re: Just got post-surgery results and they aren't good

My oncologist offered xeloda with Oxi or 5fU with Oxy. He told me there was not difference in effectiveness. I chose 5FU with Oxy because I would rather be on the pump for 48 hours instead of taking pills each day. I do not like to take pills. The Oxy was the hard part of the treatment. The Oxy was ...

Re: Stage 1 with no surgery...any thoughts?

It is a tough decision. I had a small polyp but it was flat. My surgeon recommend a wait and see. He would do scan every 3 months and check my labs every month. However the cancer board and other surgeon recommend surgery. I was very confused. I waited 6 months and he did the scans and labs every th...

Re: Preparing for Surgery... scared & need advice

Hello Sanjuro, I had LARS earlier this year. My doctor was Dr. Kaiser at USC. In my opinion best move I could had made. He was able to do surgery with a scope. He is a great doctor. He did a great job and my surgery recovery was very smooth. He was not my original surgeon. I got rid of my original s...

Re: How long post surgery back to normal?

I take probiotics everyday and it has helped out a lot. Before that I had a hard time going to the bathroom and when I did it hurt because my stools were rock hard. With the probiotic my stools are softer and easier to pass. Hope you find something that helps.

Re: Questions and help for newly diagnosed

Do the chemo. Give yourself the best odds to defeat the cancer. Cancer is sneaky and can progress very quickly. I went from Stage 1 to Stage 3 very quickly. Chemo sucks and each person reacts differently. I just finished my 6 months on chemo. I still have neuropathy but least in my mind I am doing a...

Re: Another Newbie here - Stage IIIC questions on treatment

I was in the same boat as you. Started out thinking we caught it early but after surgery and pathology I went from stage 1a to stage 3a. I just finished 12 rounds of Folfox two weeks ago. Had a clean scan and will have colonscopy end of the month. The hardest part for me in the early sessions was me...
