Re: New and husband just diagnosed

Ok, so we met with the colorectal surgeon. He did an exam on my husband, a proctoscope? During the scope, we heard him say something about T4? Anyways, he said that the tumor wasn't as low down as thought so if he was to have surgery then there would be a high chance of no colostomy bag. His tumor ...

Re: Just told I have a mass in rectum

Hi all, I'm a 59 year old female. I had a colonoscopy yesterday. My first one. After I woke up the doctor said he was 99% sure if was cancer. So for the holiday weekend, I'm sitting here so worried. He said it was a 5 c m. That's all I know. I have an appointment with a surgeon on Tuesday and waiti...

Re: Reversal

Mesh, I am 7 weeks out from reversal and what you describe is the exact feeling that I had for the first few weeks. But it did get better. I am now eating almost anything that I want and only using the restroom a couple of times per day. However, if you are concerned talk to your surgeon. He can tel...

Re: How bad would it be to quit oxaliplatin?

I stopped oxy after my 4th round. The day that I was going to tell my doctor that I was done with it, he walked in and told me he was recommending that I stop. I did 2 more cycles of just xeloda and then he stopped that as well based on my low blood counts. Here is my thread when I asked basically t...

Re: Husband 43 DX'd rectal cancer HELP

LChristinaD Your husband's story sounds almost exactly like mine. I am 45 and dx 12/2015 from a colonoscopy. Had the MRI and CT and was told no spread and suspicious looking nodes then a couple weeks later the oncologist order a PET scan. I had 30 sessions of radiation with oral chemo xeloda, drove ...

Re: Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

Day 6 and the swelling in my hand has gone down some but I still have the dozens of tiny needles sticking in my finger tips. Is this neuropathy? The nurses from the cancer center still haven't called me back. Those of you that got a second opinion, did you take your records with you to the oncologist?

Re: Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

3 days later and I still cant use my left hand, it just doesnt do what I tell it to. It is swollen half again the size of my right hand. I dont trust my medical oncologists staff any longer and even though I like the dr I feel I need to be somewhere where I trust what I am being told. Writergirl, wh...

Re: Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

I've been doing colon cancer labors for 6+ yrs and try to leave RC alone, but here goes... If you're still considered T1N0M0 (stage 1) RC and did neoadjuvant chemoradiation before surgery, what risk factors are they chasing with oxaliplatin? One could make the case, your pain, inflammation and thei...

Re: Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

Well, my decision was made but not the way I planned. I was at peace with my decision to xeloda only but let them talk me into trying a decreased dose of oxy and a different pre treatment. After the 4th time my veins blew out starting the IV, I told the nurses that I was done. They said they underst...

Re: I am on a mission

I don't understand it either. When any one asks me "what can I do for you" I tell them you can get a scope for me. When I was dx I told my two sisters to get checked. One had it done immediately, the other schedules and finds an excuse to cancel. My sisters see what I have been through and...

Re: Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

The port was discussed but they would have had to remove a lipoma, making it a little more invasive. I am leaning toward not doing the oxy anymore, my fingers have been numb for two weeks and I am worried about permanent neuropathy. But most of all it is the effect it has on my ankylosing spondyliti...

Re: Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

Thanks, I thought I remembered reading someone was doing monotherapy. i had a complete response to chemoradiation and my pathology report from surgery was T1N0M0. My mind wants to tough it out but my body is telling me no mas. I am totally unsure and when I seek advice from anyone they just say it i...

Adjuvant chemo: Anyone just do xeloda?

Looking for some opinions, experiences, whatever. I am currently taking xeloda, 4000 mg per day and oxaliplatin in a two on one off cycle. I am experiencing a lot of side effects from the oxy. Severe joint pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, loss of mobility in joints, neuropathy to name a few. I w...

Re: My Husband, 64 yrs young, Waiting and Worrying in Hartford CT

The waiting is the worst part. My GI doc told me he was 90% sure it was cancer but I had to wait a couple of days before the results were back. Best wishes, I hope it is nothing.

Re: Colostomy Leaking Since Surgery - 8 Days

And I also did speak with an attorney who did tell me that no other surgeon will likely take her on due to the mess this one has created. So I guess that is basically telling me that we are going to be stuck with this one -- also infuriating. We ran into this when my son got hurt during a football ...
