Paracentesis questions for those of you that have had one done.

For anyone out there that has/had ascites and had a paracentesis could you possibly give me some information on how it went? I'm curious to know if your fluid was I guess for a lack of better words thick or thin? How long was the procedure, and are you awake for it? If the fluid was thick, was there...

Entering into a clinical trial

I had seen a surgeon at the University of Chicago Medicine on 5-22-17, and he wanted to do an exploratory laparoscopy next week of my abdomen to supposedly determine if the mucus in my abdomen is "active" or "dying" cancer - which then would indicate that the Keytruda had been wo...

Re: Update - Almost out of options?

Why was the rationale for going back to a chemotherapy combination, instead of adding chemo to the immunotherapy? Maia- I think there were a few factors that led my onc to not add chemo or Avastin to the Keytruda. Originally I was going to head to Cleveland for a clinical trial to get 10mg/kg of th...

Update - Almost out of options?

After my scan in February it was determined that Keytruda was no longer working for me. Going forward my onc wanted to put me on Erbitux, and then add Irinotecan after a few rounds of Erbitux. At my last chemo appointment I had told my onc that I didn't feel like this chemo cocktail was working. Mai...

Re: Oxaliplatin desensitization protocol

KElizabeth, I don't know if this will help you, but I just went through a desensitization with Irinotecan on March 30, 2017. My first chemo (back in November 2015) was supposed to be FOLFIRINOX (5-FU, Leucovorin, Oxaliplatin, and Irinotecan). They ran the Leucovorin and Irinotecan together and my to...

Re: Erbitux self-care kit

I recently started Erbitux and had ordered the free kit too. I do have the rash, but it's tolerable. It seems to flare up the worst 1 week after infusion. The thing that has helped me the most is doxycycline that my oncologist prescribed to take every day. I've found that vitamin E oil helps too. G...

Erbitux self-care kit

Two weeks ago I was told that my oncologist was switching me to Erbitux. So I did what most of us do – Google the medication to learn about the possible side effects so I can be prepared for them. I ended up on the Erbitux website (http://www.erbitux.com) and there was a section on support which had...

Re: CT Results – Need HIPEC recommendations

Maia, Thank you very much for your recommendations. I will definitely keep my eye on the trial. As far as adding the Avastian to the Keytruda – I’m not sure that would make a difference since my oncologist feels that the Keytruda possibly stopped working around October. When I had my consult at Mayo...

CT Results – Need HIPEC recommendations

I had my appointment yesterday morning to get the results of my CT scan. It was confirmed that the cancer has progressed. I am devastated yet again as one would be. I was really hoping for a stable scan so that I could pursue a consult with a HIPEC surgeon. I should’ve done it sooner. I guess it sti...

Re: Little Update - but not feeling good

WriterGirl1969, I so wish it were medications that were making me feel this way. Nothing has changed in my daily medications other than an antibiotic was prescribed for my underarm cyst, and I haven’t started taking it yet. I have been telling the doctors and nurses every week when I go in for fluid...

Re: Little Update - but not feeling good

Jack&KatiesMommy, I looked at my RBC and it looks like in September I dropped to 3.64 and have basically hovered around there since. I was 3.86 on Feb. 2nd. I will ask if maybe some iron would help at all. peanut_8, The only flu like symptoms I really have is the fatigue, muscle/body aches, and ...

Re: Little Update - but not feeling good

Have they checked your white counts? Checked for UTI? jhocno197, My white counts were 7.7 on Feb. 2nd, and 5.4 on Jan.12. Those are both within normal range. Now that you said that I went back through and looked and the lowest I've been since getting checked all the time is 4.1 on folfox. I seem to...

Little Update - but not feeling good

FYI - this is a bit long - I always add in too many details - but I tired to make this short, but it didn’t work. Sorry. I know I haven’t posted any updates in awhile, and I’m sorry for that, but I do come here every day and read what everyone else has posted. I’m due for a scan on Feb. 16th, with t...

Re: Starting immunotherapy

Hi Plastikos I started pembrolizumab March 24th of this year. I’m receiving a dose of 2mg per kg of body weight, so my dose has fluctuated as I have lost some weight. I get my treatments every 3 weeks (I actually have my 13th treatment in the morning). They give me 25 mg of Benadryl and 1000 mg of T...

Re: When to worry about Lynch?

Not sure if this helps or not. I had the genetic testing done in December, and received the results in late January or sometime in February. I ended up being Lynch positive and MSI high. They did the genetic test mainly because of my age and having colon cancer. My father had lung cancer, my mother ...
