Re: Adding a baby to stage iv cancer life: Looking for real-life experiences

Are you part of Colontown on Facebook? There's a parents group there that would likely have people in this situation in it.

Re: Is this a normal side-effect of chemo?

Hmmm...I've been more impatient and angry lately, but I've been chalking it up to chemo-induced menopause and the hormones being all out of whack.

Re: Metastises has to be considered

I'm not sure why you aren't supposed to have seen them. I routinely ask for copies of all my scan results. As a patient, you have a right to those. Once you have a copy, it's easy to ask what things mean.

Elephant in the room number one. Hey whats that gonna cost? Call your insurance. Ask what your deductible is, and what your max out of pocket is. Ask what your co-pays are. Create a file folder where you put every insurance statement and bill and everything else related to your cancer, including cop...

Re: 4 days in from hemicolerectmy

Are you taking narcotic pain meds? Mine caused severe constipation - I had gas and poop in the hospital before being released, but from Sunday to Friday nothing at all. On Friday I stopped the pain meds and within 24 hours was pooping.

Re: Just starting the fight

Welcome from not too far away from you in Arlington. UT Southwestern is a great choice from what I hear. I second a previous poster who said you'll need more help at home than in the hospital. There was always a nurse to help me up or bring me what I needed in the hospital, but once at home, I could...

Re: Chemo Question

I'm headed to the infusion center in just a few minutes to get my 5FU pump disconnected. I've worn it for 4 days and it's been pretty unproblematic. I am only on my 3rd cycle, but I've been able to work with it and most people don't even notice it. In my second cycle I did Xeloda, and I'm just not v...

Re: Question about after colectomy

One of the hardest things for me after surgery was helping my 7-year-old understand that we could not do all our normal activities, and why. He loved being a helper, though, especially with putting my socks and shoes on, which was impossible for me for the first couple weeks. I also prepared a box o...

Re: Newbie - Preparing for Battle

I too am mid-forties with a young child (boy, age 7). I am stage II and had significant pain inthe months leading up to my diagnosis and surgery, so I can tell you that pain can occur even at early stages. As others have noted, degree of penetration into the wall is what matters for staging, not ove...

Re: Going Crazy Since Tumor Was Found In Sigmoid Colon

My story is similar. Diagnosed November '15 at age 45 after a colonoscopy due to symptoms like yours. The GI was almost sure the tumor was cancerous, and biopsy confirmed. Surgery in December, started chemo Feb 1. I continued exercise, etc to the extent that I could up until surgery, but I was mostl...

Re: What were your symptoms like before you were diagnosed?

I had been having digestive issues for a couple months, with changes in bowel habits from my norm. I would feel like I needed to poop, but when I tried to I couldn't, like I was constipated. When I would eventually be able to, it was always a loose stool rather than what I'd expect with constipation...

Re: update on colon cancer worries.

Well that's the thing, I read somewhere by the time someone shows symptoms. It is either stage III or IV. How could I fight a disease I didnt know I had for a long time and doesn't show symptoms until its serious? It's one big mind screw if you are someone as young as me Don't assume that symptoms ...

Re: Please help me with my Pathology Report

Right after my colonoscopy but before my biopsy results were in, I ended up in the ER (as a nurse friend said, I had a really pissed off tumor, which did not like the poking and prodding of 3 different scopes trying to get past it, plus being biopsied). In the ER, they did X-rays and CT scans, which...

My GI knew when he saw it that might was malignant. I'm guessing, as others have said, that he didn't think it appeared cancerous.
