Re: Need help with lab report

The "y" designator means after chemoradiation the p means "pathological," in other words, a direct look at the specimen. So, you would look at it like this: Upon initial clinical evaluation (i.e. scans, ultrasound etc) your tumor was staged T3N2MO You underwent chemoradiation pri...

Re: Chemo after Surgery?

Your case is a little less clear cut because you are on the border of actual Rectosigmoid, which is generally treated as Colon which has no adjuvant therapy in stage 1. However, doctors are even saying that stage 2A is over treated in the case of Rectal cancers and should only get adjuvant therapy i...

Re: Scanxiety - called back for a 2nd MRI

Good luck, just for peace of mind, brain mets are rare in the first place, and even more rare in the absence of other identified mets, particularly lung.

Odds are on your side.

Re: Liver Lesion Identified, Four Years After Original Diagnosis

My wife is approaching her 6 year appointment, being NED after surgery for a Stage 2A diagnosis. A small hypodense liver lesion was found on her 1st post op staging CT that scared us. However, the Onc told us it was seen, but not noted on the pre-op staging scan and was unchanged. He said they find ...

Re: Phase 2 vs Phase 3 trials

In researching treatments for cancer, in patients under active treatment, there is no placebo arm. The studies are testing vs current line treatments. So, the treatment is either standard line treatment or with the study drug/protocol. No one will tell a cancer patient that you risk receiving placeb...

Re: CHEMO? Any Stage 2a or 3 Rectal Cancer survivors that didnt do Chemo?

My wife is 6 years NED from stage 2A Rectal 12cm from the anal verge, no high risk factors and no chemo. 2A Rectal is though to be overtreated with Chemo. There is a lot of work going on to figure out when it is right and when it is overkill. Only you can make the decision that you can sleep with at...

Re: Are we doing everything we can?

This looks like the tumor was a T3 and 3mm from the anterior abdominal wall adhesion. I don’t see where it says the tumor itself adhered to the wall. This would place the stage at 2A, which is questionable when it comes to chemo. The distance of 3mm from the margin and Grade 2 (moderate) might push ...

Re: Question about rectosigmoid cancer......

Hi. The determination of treating as rectal or colon is generally made by where the tumor is in relation to the Peritoneal Reflection. Treatment will depend on stage based on imaging studies. A CT scan will be scheduled and maybe an MRI. The CT scan will look for spread to other organs/structures an...

Re: newly diagnosed stage 2a @ 38

My wife was diagnosed 2A after pathology 5 1/2 years ago with no high-risk factors. Our oncologist discussed a chemo option with us but said he recommended against it because at stage 2A with no high risk factors there was a very small percentage improvement vs the potential for liver damage. Additi...

Hi Daniellabella—welcome to the best club nobody ever wants to have to join! I see that you have posted on the tail end of a few threads as well as starting your own—always good to start your own thread like this when you want a lot of traffic to see your questions, etc. I am by no means an expert,...

Re: Déjà vu

Good luck. One thing to keep in mind is that your paperwork will get reviewed by insurance prior to approval for surgery. “Colon cancer”is most likely something he used as the ICD code to make approval sail through without much question. Otherwise, insurance may hav come back with questions and revi...

A little hope for you, my wife went through the same journey. We thought it was stage 1 from the scans, but it turned out she was stage 2 after surgery.

5 years NED in Sept or 2017!!

Good luck on your journey.

Re: Swollen lymph node in groin... almost 5 years NED

Swollen groin nodes can be a thousand things that aren’t cancer. From bug bites to infected ingrown hairs, there are plenty of things that can make a node mad enough to swell.
