Re: Quitting chemo

I am guessing they will try a different combination such as Folfiri. However, there have been some on here who had no success with FOLFOX, etc, but their genetic makeup made immunotherapy a much better choice. Keytruda is now an FDA approved drug for fighting cancer, something to consider. Please co...

Re: 1st colonoscopy this Friday, August 18th!

Count me in the "I thought it was just a hemorrhoid" club. That's actually how I met my colorectal surgeon--was meeting him for first time to evaluate the hemorrhoid. As my tumor was butt-ing up against the anal verge he knew immediately I had more than a hemorrhoid to deal with. I literal...

Re: Burning while urinating, 2 more days of radiation left!

You really don't have to be a bath person to use a sitz bath as it just sits over top of the toilet, maybe she doesn't realize that. It really only requires the 10 or so minutes of sitting on it while the water flows through. I just did warm water, nothing fancy, but it really was the best feeling w...

Re: My mom diagnosed with colorectal cancer

Her doctor ( specialist colorectal surgeon) told her the cancer is entirely on her rectum and she will most likely need a bag for the rest of her life. She is very nervous and scared. So am I. Thanks for coming back and sharing the update. Scary times for sure, I have been there and done that as th...

Re: Chemo kicked my ass yesterday

Sorry to hear about your cold sensitivity situation, no doubt extremely scary--I too would have panicked in your situation. If it helps, I have read several others with that same scenario of their throat feeling like it was closing because of the cold sensitivity so it is not unheard of, but still s...

Definitely hook us up with the video if it is possible, sounds cool! And you must love being able to say your daughter really is a rocket scientist! My son starts college at University of South Carolina in Columbia which is one of the optimal viewing locations--they are expecting thousands of ...

Re: Burning while urinating, 2 more days of radiation left!

I absolutely am a fan of the sitz bath--definitely helped me through the last portion of radiation where your skin is at it's most vulnerable. I also got a peri rinse bottle (both were given to me from radiology office when I asked nurse about them) and that was great for rinsing off after a BM as t...

Re: Neuropathy - progression - tipping point?

Did any of you get to the point where neuropathy went from tingling to losing motor function - loss of grip, dropping things, etc? Once chemo ended did the tingling stop? So I did the 8 rounds of FOLFOX that my onc prescribed and all of them at full dosage. While my fingers had the tingling from co...

Strangely I think that this fall I've experienced has helped me and I was able to get up and now I feel a little stronger. As if letting down my defences and to allow myself a moment of weakness was all I needed to keep going strong. I understand completely what you mean and let's hope that was you...

Re: CT Scan said, "colon consistent with cancer"

Kenneth, I'm going to be blunt here. If some radiologist read my CT scan and it said 'consistent with colon cancer', I wouldn't just say....oh well.....and go on my merry way. I would be RUNNING to the medical doctors to see what could be done. You may not have cancer or you may. Either way, you ar...

Re: Recipes for colon cancer patients

I think because it was a meal I could have with no issues, I really enjoyed tuna noodle casserole while going through treatments. It's not a spicy or overly flavorful meal, but it's more of a comfort food and the tuna is a good source of protein. You could also throw in some canned salmon to bulk up...

Re: Newly diagnosed

I'm only 40, non drinker, non smoker and no one in my family has had cancer. I'm so tired already because my hgb is low, 9.0. I'm very scared I won't be able to handle treatment and work and family demands. I'm exhausted already and work and treatments haven't started yet. I am a teacher and school...

Can you drive after taking the Oxaliplatin? I drove home after all of my infusions of FOLFOX so it is definitely possible if nothing else is administered that would impact your driving ability. As with all things chemo, it will depend on how your body takes to the oxaliplatin, but it is definitely ...

Re: Back pain with Radiation? Osteoporosis?

Is is true on the last week of radiation, they try to zap it stronger and more intense? Her Oncologist mentioned that during her break, that she will become more weak a week after. What was your experience like? Please share. Thank you :) Yes, I didn't realize that myself until I was getting close ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I can't recommend enough a sitz bath to deal with the accumulating effects of radiation. I actually got one from the radiologist's office. I always had to meet with them once a week during the treatments and they had them on hand there for just such a reason. I also got a peri-rinse bottle from them...
