Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Hi, posting an update in case there are others worrying about mild ascites. My dad has his 6 monthly CT scan and the ascites has reduced to almost negligible. There are no signs of peritoneal spread (thank God!). They still want us to check his liver for any cirrhosis but for now, I’m Glad that recu...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Hi everyone, just to give an update that we are coming to the last leg of the UK trip and my dad is still doing all right. No significant signs that ascites is progressing. I also updated our signature- you can see that his situation while less complicated for the colon cancer part, he had multiple ...

Re: Anyone pass out after abdominal cramping??? ER time

I’m so sorry this is happening to your Husband. You must be frantic with worry. I have no advice, just commiseration. (Btw I read both your HAI pump update and this thread and I thought, as I’m sure many others did, to keep the conversation on this thread since it seemed to be where you were posting...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Dear all, thought to update that the ultrasound showed consistent findings with the earlier CT, mild ascites. It seems to be stable. They also found increased echo of the liver and dilated hepatic vein which I understand can be related to fatty liver. We are off to the UK tomorrow night but after we...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Thank you Diane. That’s useful information about the bilirubin. For my dad, the bilirubin was found to have normalised. Just worried about the ascites now. This morning we saw the oncologist. Based on the hospital records, the recent weight gain is not as drastic about 1.5kg rather than 3kg. Differe...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Just to keep all posted- my dad has had weight gain, 3kg in 2 weeks. So we are worried that the ascites is progressing. However he has good improved appetite (he now eats 3 meals instead of 2 meals like he used to after the heart surgery last year) and feeling normal, no other symptoms of ascites li...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Hi everyone, thank you for your earlier advice. The repeat liver function test showed the bilirubin levels to have normalised, at 22umol/l which is equivalent to 1.28mg/dl. I’m not sure what caused the elevation so shortly before, but I’m relieved. For now, the Doctors are not very concerned about t...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Thank you Pyro and everyone who has given their views! With your advice, I’ve gotten in contact with the oncologist who acknowledged that while he still did not think this points to cancer, he suggested my dad do a repeat liver panel, and he will assess that and refer to a liver specialist. He thoug...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Hi Tex, Yes he had an echo I think in January. What I’m not sure is why the oncologist didn’t mention the elevated bilirubin when I spoke to him. He only mentioned the mild ascites. I only found out when I got hold of the lab report. From what I’ve read, if there is elevated bilirubin plus ascites, ...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Thank you CRguy! My dad is not visibly jaundiced. He is actually fine, but his appetite has not been good (he says since the heart surgery last year). The blood panel results indicated that ‘serum is mildly jaundiced’. The range for bilirubin is 7-32, and his is 41. He’s on medication for his heart ...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Thank you. I’m looking for some stories and experiences that might add a perspective that I currently am not getting from doctors.

Is elevated biliburin (but no other elevated markers in liver panel), consistent with Mets in the liver?

Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Hi, I’ve posted a couple of times before about my 74 year old dad, signature has his history. The latest scan results is bothering me. No cancer found but mild ascites picked up around liver. The doctor said it’s between the lungs and liver. As my dad had aortic heart valve replacement in mid last y...

Re: Question about recurrence

Thanks Sunrise and Nik. Yes I figure it could have been fatigue or mineral imbalance but we were a little alarmed that he couldn't walk without leaning on the wall. But the good thing is that it went away after two days. By the way for anyone interested in the CEA level at the latest check up (as th...
