Re: The things people say to cancer patients

Hang in there. What people say is about them not us. It’s really hard to keep that in mind or be forced to deal with these folks. We get it! My mom at first denied it was cancer (even though the doctor was pretty sure it was). Her first question to the doctor was “what caused it”...”could it be all ...

Re: Solitary Lung Met - Looking for Positive Experiences

The surgeon removed the entire middle lobe due to the position of the met which has been confirmed as a spread of the rectal cancer vs. a new primary. The surgery was yesterday morning and I am at home this evening resting comfortably.

Thanks for your response. I'm glad to hear your mum is doing well. This is scary stuff and some days it's hard to stay positive.

Solitary Lung Met - Looking for Positive Experiences

My recent CT scan revealed a single 6mm nodule which was not on the scan from one year ago. The PET scan showed some uptake associated with the nodule, but didn't show any other areas of concern. "There is FDG uptake with SUV 1.64. There are mild atelectatic changes, otherwise the lungs are cle...

Re: Port Removal -- ASAP or wait for first scan?

I want to keep my port for as long as I can. I am a difficult blood draw and the IV contrast for the CT scans is even more difficult due to the larger needle. For me it's well worth the hassle of the port flushes. My oncologist gave me the same speech about scans and radiation but I'd rather be proa...

Re: To port or not for Oxi

I am a very difficult stick so I kept my port for follow up blood work and the CTs. I've had no issues. I had it installed the day before my first infusion and it was fine.

Re: Clear Scans!!! :)

Congrats! Hopefully they can figure out the answer to your new symptoms. Once you have been through this experience, I guess any new emerging issues are that much more difficult to deal with. Personally I feel like my life is a puzzle and I have to find the doctors who have the various puzzle pieces...

O/T A New Adventure - Rotator Cuff Repair

So...I finally finish a year of hell. I haven't even gotten past the GI issues, chemo brain and the post chemo fatigue and I am back at it again with shoulder surgery this time (of course, it's my dominant hand that will be affected). Intellectually I know that this is a good thing (that I am health...

Re: Post Illesotomy Reversal Problems

My situation was not the same, but I did catch C Diff in the hospital following my reversal surgery (a virus that causes explosive bms...just what you don't need after being reconnected). After that, I finished the remaining 4 Xelox rounds (chemo) and I am still having GI issues. Although it is bett...

Re: Eating Healthy on a Low Residue Diet?

I have been struggling with this myself. Although I am eating healthier than before I was diagnosed (avoiding fatty/fried and fast foods), it seems counter intuitive to eat white flour and other low fiber foods. The best advice I have heard recently is to listen to my body. It doesn't do me any good...

Re: Help for my husband diagnosed 9/16/16 Stage III?

Everyone has an individual response to chemo and most side effects don't start until later treatments. According to my oncologist most people have a negative initial reaction to the idea of adjuvant chemo and I was no exception. There are many discussions for and against adjuvant chemo. I made my de...
