Re: lymph nodes taken during surgery - to stage cancer

in the end, as long as they are treating you with follow up chemo, the treatment doesn't change based on the positive nodes...in our case, DH is clinical stage 2a...even if nodes had come out positive and he was staged at 3, it wouldn't change the treatment so I try not to worry (easier said than d...

Re: How many lymph nodes were taken during your rectal surgery?

My surgeon yesterday told me that he only takes the lymph nodes that come out with the tumor. He said it's usually 10 to 12, but it might be less than that. So, I'm concerned that it might not be enough to give a clear picture of what stage I am. I'm wondering how many lymph nodes were taken from ot...

Re: If you want prayer stop in here!

Please pray for us, I have rectal cancer diagnosed in Aug, surgery will be on Oct 12 (very nervous to have major surgery, especially when the surgeon went thru all of the possibilities of complications/problems that could happen). I have 3 siblings and all 4 of us have dealt with cancer. One brother...

How many lymph nodes were taken during your rectal surgery?

Hello,

I'm newly diagnosed with rectal cancer and am scheduled to have my surgery on Oct 12.
I would like to know from those who have had rectal surgery, how many lymph nodes did your surgeon take out?
Also, what stage cancer you were and if they found cancer in some of the lymph nodes?

Thanks....

lymph nodes taken during surgery - to stage cancer

Hello, I'm new to this group. I have rectal cancer. Just saw the surgeon today and was asking him how many lymph nodes he takes out to be tested (for staging the cancer). He told me that he just takes out what comes out with the tumor area he takes out. He said it's usually 10 or 12 lymph nodes, but...
