Re: Any Stage IV's that have been cured?

Me. Diagnosed in 2007. Ascending colon removed and 7 rounds of chemo “killed” tumors in liver. They resurfaced 9 mos later. Right lobe of liver removed in January 2009 where there were 3 tumors. Followed by 12 rounds of FOLFIRI plus Avastin. No more cancer.

Re: No more scans?

Thanks for the link Diane! Feeling good about your mustard seed:) Betsy- Glad you are doing well and have been Cancer-free for nearly 6 years. Your onc will probably recommend that the scans become less frequent and stop at some point. I would like to think that there comes a time when we can put th...

Re: No more scans?

Thanks Diane and Bev The liver mets (2 @ 1.5 cm each) were in the right lobe and were there when they found the colon tumor in my cecum but the colon surgery was an emergency resection so the liver was left alone. The liver tumors temporarily "died" from chemo I received following the colo...

No more scans?

I just had a CT scan and it is clear! I have had clear scans for six years since the right lobe of my liver was removed on January 19th 2009. I followed up with 12 rounds of Folfiri plus Avastin with the last dose on August 3rd 2009. So here I am, cancer-free 6 years later! But herein lies the quest...

Re: Who are the longest stage 4 survivor's on here?

I was diagnosed November 2007. I have been cancer-free since the right lobe of my liver was removed in January 2009. After surgery I had 6 months of FOLFIRI plus Avastin in case there were any cancer cells left anywhere in my body. I've had scans every 6 months. Now I will have them once a year and ...

Re: Benefits of Cimetidine (Tagamet)

I took cimetidine before and after my liver surgery in January 2009. The right lobe of my liver was removed followed by 6 months of folfiri plus avastin. I am cancer free. My doctors didn't tell me to take the cimetidine. I just listed it as one of my medications. I don't know if it helped but it di...

Re: Smell of Cancer ?

Odd you say this. Recently it seems to me that I have to be very aware of my hygiene and have been wondering why I just don't smell very good. I am due for a PET scan Monday (its been 6 months) I have not had chemo in for 2 years. The smell is worse under my right arm so I was thinking it may have s...

I'm not surprised that it lit up on the PET. That just means hypermetabolic activity which is consistent with inflammation post surgery.

Re: Can you 'Catch" Cancer??

It has crossed my mind... but most people act like anyone who thinks you can catch cancer is ignorant. I was exposed to someone who died of colon cancer about 4 years before I was diagnosed and I am ashamed to say that yes, it has crossed my mind that I caught it from her. If you are run down or pre...

Re: Recurrence 4WKS post ultrasound-guided Resection..2 opinions

I'm so sorry you are upset and hope that they have answers for you shortly. Tests are tools to give doctors a look inside but do not always give absolute answers. Also, a lot depends on the expertise of the person reading the various scans. Yes surgery can cause a hematoma. It did in my case. My hem...

Re: Recurrence 4WKS post ultrasound-guided Resection..2 opinions

Welcome to my world! I had my liver resection Jan. 2009. Ever since there has been has been a suspicious area along the resection margin. They are calling it a hematoma. They have been concerned about it and areas of it do light up on the PET. In October 2009, the area that lit up was biopsied. It w...

Re: To Port or Not to Port

Julie, Port definitely! Cancer ain't for sissies! You are having chemo and its time to just do it. A port is real and makes you face the fact that you have cancer. It is the most efficient way to do chemo. My port is on the right because I am the driver most of the time. I have had to avoid styles t...

Re: Found I was MSI-S

Dear Louise, As much as you hate the idea of starting Xeloda, I think in the long run it is a smart choice. With cancer,so much is out of our control so I feel that when given the choice, opting to DO something to fight back, at least puts you in a position where later you will have no regrets. Your...

Liver biopsy results back!

Well, the path and culture of my liver biopsy from Monday are back and its not a met! YAY! And its not an infection...What? I haven't seen the report, I just spoke to the PA. He said he'd email it to me. There has been a hematoma there since the resection in Jan 2009. Biopsy last October was negativ...
