Re: Cancer Causes

Who knows.... I was active, ate healthy, never ate anything artificial or processed. I did live in Japan for 3 years prior to my diagnosis and part of me thinks the radiation from Fukashima might have played a part. Who knows if it was in the fish I ate or the vegetables I consumed. Although the Jap...

Re: Rectal sensation - paranoid

Yep, I had that too. My surgeon sent me to pelvic floor pt which pretty much got rid of all those weird feelings. One thing I learned during the pelvic floor treatment is that all of the muscles in your core and then down around your pelvis, vaginal areas, anus.... All of those are connected. So whe...

Re: Newly Diagnosed from overseas. Moving back to the US

I was living in Japan when diagnosed and returned to the states within a week or so of my diagnosis. I know the stress associated with dealing with a diagnosis and uprooting your entire household. I'm sorry you have to deal with all of that. I don't know your exact situation but for me, I don't know...

Re: Itching/Rash after ULAR, TME, & Ileostomy

The same thing happened to me. It turned out I was allergic to the prep they used on my skin for the surgery. My surgeon (who is awesome!) made sure to use a different prep for the second surgery and she washed it off of me after the prep (I was told later). I didn't experience any rash with the sec...

Re: To Xeloda or not to Xeloda

I'm on round 4 of 5, for the 3 week Xeloda cycle. It's going pretty well for me, I think. They have me on a pretty high dose at 4000 mg per day, but towards the end of the cycle they have me drop it down to 3000 mg/day because of hand & foot. Here's how it goes for me... Day 1-7 I feel good. I'm...

Re: Reversing an illeostomy early

I had mine reversed exactly one month after my surgery. Mine was a mess too. We couldn't stop the leaks no matter what we tried, it was eating away at my skin, and the pain was terrible. The more it leaked, the worse it got. The Ostomy nurse ran out of ideas as she had tried so many different system...

Re: Oncology and hiding info

Good for you; you have to be your own advocate! I did the first round of Xelox 3 weeks ago and the Oxi caused very scary side effects with my eyes. Everything would go totally black for a few seconds, then come back as tunnel vision that would slowly return to normal. I also had my vision freeze. I ...

Carafate vs. the ring of fire

I want to share my story in hopes that it might help others dealing with the same issue. By day 15 of chemoradiotherapy the ring of fire had me in unimaginable agony (well most of you can probably imagine, but I had no idea what I was in for at the time). I tried everything the doctors were willing ...

Re: Shingles.... Seriously?

Oh no! I had shingles when I was young which is very rare, but I remember the pain! So sorry :( mine was also in that area, actually that's how my parents found out I had chicken pox as mine were never detected or obviously very minor that they didn't know I ever had, but they said you have to have...

Re: Shingles.... Seriously?

Ugh that stinks. Seems like a big coincidence that you got shingles right after starting chemo and radiation, but I guess stranger things have happened. I think it's more than a coincidence. Chemo suppresses the immune system so that gives the varicella virus a chance to take over in the form of sh...

Shingles.... Seriously?

I just finished my 10th day of xeloda & radiation. I was laying on the table getting radiation and I had this stabbing pain by my belly button. They called in the radiation onc and he said it was well out of the blast zone. So after my treatment I went and talked to my oncologist. Thanks to a re...
