Re: Elevated CEA from radiation?

Very good news. I will have my CEA tested next week. Hopefully it will be on its way down.

Re: Elevated CEA from radiation?

Thank you. Hopefully my CEA rise is caused by radiation, too

Elevated CEA from radiation?

I finished radiation to my chest (mediastinal lymph nodes) one month ago. My CEA has risen from 8 before treatment to 18. I had a quite painful esophagitis during and after treatment which may have influenced my CEA. Anyone else experienced this?

Re: Any surgeons doing Laser surgery?

I asked my thoracic surgeon in Norway and I also spoke to an oncologist in Heidelberg, Germany who had been working in the Thoracic surgery department. They both confirmed having the equipment and using it primarily on lung cancer. It is the wavelength of the laser beam I think is crucial. I got the...

Re: Any surgeons doing Laser surgery?

Actually many thoracic surgeons have laser equipment and can do the procedure. But I think many are reluctant because they do not believe removing many lung mets with laser improves long term prognosis. So it is no a question of technology, but of the usage.

Re: NED 4.5 year after lung recurrence

Congrats! Such wonderful results! I just wonder, when you had your mediastinal nodes, did your CEA rise? I have two lung mets, but I now have mediastinal nodes with a slightly elevated CEA. I wonder if this excludes sarcoidosis.

Re: Turned down for HIPEC

I had HIPEC in Norway and was accepted with one lung met, so practice varies. I still have 2 small lung mets, but no peritoneal recurrence and enjoying life treatment free. There must be some surgeons who will accept you for HIPEC with one lung met.

Re: Lung Mets?

I have two slow growing lung mets, one in each lung. They have actually been visible on CT scan for almost two years. My thoracic surgeon recommends a wait and see approach until they reach 1-2 cm, then he will consuder surgery or SBRT. I am ok with that. It is doubtful that these small mets will ca...

Re: Lung MET: Chemo or No?

I agree with stu, it all about growth rate. I have had a couple of very slow growing nodules for almost two years. Still too small for surgery. No chemo during this time.

Since yours appeared after so many years, it is probably slow growing.

Re: Colorectal cancer - a disease with great diversity

I think I will be offered surgery or SBRT if the nodules reach a diameter of 1-2 cm, and if a PET scan confirms that they are probably mets. I am nor sure a lung biopsy will be needed, or at least I hope not. I am afraid a biopsy will lead to further spread. Here is a link to one of the papers I hav...

Re: Colorectal cancer - a disease with great diversity

Grouseman, you are absolutely right, there is no firm evidence that they are mets. But unlike your wifes nodules, they were not there at dx, but appeared a year or so later. My thoracic surgeon does not want to biopsy such small nodules deep in the lung. So I guess wait and see is the most sensible ...

Re: HIPEC, HAI and a Lung Nodule???

I had HIPEC in January 2015 and lung resection 7 weeks later. I now have two lung nodules 6 and 8 mm which have been virtually unchanged for one and a half years without any chemo. Lung nodules are often slow growing.

My ALP was elevated for a year post chemo. I don't think there is any reason to worry.
