Re: Enema’s stopped working?

Thank you, yes it is a relief the tests were normal. I also have to follow up with a colonoscopy in the next few months, that might give them more information as the CT won’t pick up cancer in the mucosal colon. I used to sing the praises of daily warm water enemas…now I’m wondering if they’ve stopp...

Enema’s stopped working?

Hello again. I’m 7 years NED low rectal cancer, Chemo, radiation, UlAR, ileostomy and reversal. Tried for 3 years to manage Low Anterior Resection Syndrome before starting irrigation daily. Now, after more than 3 years, I’m ending up with bloating and gas, and breakthrough toilet trips late afternoo...

Re: Enemas to manage LARS

Thanks Rockhound, I’m a member of the LARS FB page but wanted something additional relating to enemas because it will most likely be my lifelong management tool. I will check out the rectal cancer group on Colontown as I’ve not been there before. Thanks for your reply. My quality of life has picked ...

Re: Enemas - HELP

Not sure why his is happening. How much water do you use? Sometimes I get a breakthrough in less than 24 hours but this is because of diet variation. How far out from reversal are you?

Enemas to manage LARS

Hi all, I suffer with major LARS following ULAR and neoadvujant radiation therapy. I have found great relief from daily enemas and am looking for an enema specific support group online, so that I can post any questions I might have and share information. Does anyone know of such a support group onli...

Re: Bowel "Urgency" - help!

I haven’t considered surgery as there’s a risk of incontinence and Botox is temporary. It comes down to my function is terrible.

Re: Thoughts on chemo for stage II patients?

Stage 2a, rectal cancer. I opted to do the mop up chemo of six rounds of xeloda. No regrets, even though neoadjuvant radiation and chemo blasted most of my tumor away, only microscopic traces left, and tumor was found not to be in blood supply post surgery, I’m pleased I did the mop up. I wanted to ...

Re: Bowel "Urgency" - help!

Me too, so glad I got over my reluctance to take the leap. I’m still experimenting with frequency of enemas, but I have two rules. No more sleepless nights and no more clustering. My pattern is I have two or three good days and then a backup which starts the clustering especially during the night. I...

Re: Enema equipment

I use the rubber catheters as I’ve a chronic fissure which is what pushed me to finally take control with enemas. I’m 18 months out from reversal and have tried everything. Such a relief and should have done it sooner. Here is a link: http://www.midwesthealthandnutritioninc.com/ecommerce/enema-suppl...

Re: Bowel "Urgency" - help!

I have begun to use enemas in my arsenal thanks to people like tammylane giving me the confidence to try. It takes a lot to think that you need an enema to go to the toilet but in reality it’s quite easy. 20 minutes, a cup and a half of water and I’m good for 1.5 days. I’m still trailing frequency o...

Re: Radiation induced menopause

I'm following this with interest. I was not told about this by radiologist and now have stenosis and scarring. Sex is impossible and it makes me so sad to lose this in my life along with everything else cancer takes away. I have tried pessaries but not that much difference and dilators but damage is...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Thanks tammylane for the encouragement. It is a marathon not a sprint and patience is the key. I'm confident I can get to a new and acceptable normal with time. And in between time I'm taking it as easy as I can and not putting too much pressure on myself.

Re: 5 weeks post-reversal

I am 7 weeks out and have the things you describe. Multiple BMs leave the butt very sore. Yesterday because I ate onions I clustered from 5am-9am with about 12 BMs. I don't have diaorreah so these movements were very painful - firmish and well formed, and I'm sore and sorry today. I eat lots of solu...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

I'm five weeks out from the reversal and struggling a bit like everybody else has at one time or another. It is incremental improvement that I notice more in weeks and months rather than days. I'm one of those ones that falls somewhere in between really bad and possibly good. My urgency is getting b...
