Re: Quick question - chemo and reversal surgery

. . . my oncologist said he wouldn’t recommend considering it sooner than a month after last chemo . . . Hi Rob, FWIW, my onco-liver-surgeon also wanted to allow for at least a month of recovery between the end-of-chemo and anyfollowing surgery. I did CAPOX, but would be surprised things are differ...

Re: Good news on Triplet Therapy

Hi Hope Congrats on your response - that your liver mets shrunk that much in 3 months time is really good news. Have a look at my sign below. FWIW, there are a few similarities that you may find encouraging: we both have/had a transverse colon resect immediately following Dx - ahead of attacking the...

Re: Stage IV (with liver cyst) - 6 yrs NED

Thanks all for your comments. What I've learned is that, in general, cysts are thin-walled structures that contain fluid, while cystic tumors -- besides liquid -- also contain solid areas. Because of their very different contents, Ultra Sound and CT scans are the best imaging methods to distinguish ...

. . cyst in liver segment 2 (always been there) has become 'more prominent'. . . these benign masses can grow and shrink significantly. A family friend of ours had a huge one, which was like 10 cm if I remember correctly . . . . We'll meet by phone, tomorrow. I'll try to report back, before going o...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

. . . I'm left with 2 more cycles and will be using a new arm for that, I'm hoping nothing too bad will happen !! Why would you use a new arm for these final two cycles? Knowing that chemo is hard on the veins, I carefully alternated left and right arms for each cycle. Gives them 6 weeks to recover...

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

Dr Kemeny said she didn’t want to introduce it prior to surgery because it could damage the liver too much.. That's consistent with the approach of my surgeons took (though I had Oxi in mix): my liver surgery was 2½ month after end-of-chemo Sorry to hear that the chemo stopped being effective. Best...

Didn't know that they could grow at all, Leave alone to such size. All CT's I've had, have shown the same bunch of them (5 or 6) and none of my docs ha...

Stage IV (with liver cyst) - 6 yrs NED

Good day to all! Had an (on-line) peek into the results of my annual exam in preparation for a review with my docs next week. Blood work and scans didn't find anything significant and concluded that there are no indications for relapse or new mets. :D Must say that, despite that normal life has most...

Re: Mop up chemo - Port vs non-port for Oxi?

I did six rounds without a port. I did not have any issue at all. I did it in my arm at inside the elbow joint. Cynthia Same here. Found it very doable, switching arms/elbows each cycle. I believe the hot packs that the nurses diligently applied may have made the difference. Keeping the receiving a...

Re: For those previously advised no surgery.....

Hi Trying, I was in your shoes 6 yrs ago when docs decided it was best to attack the colon first, as liver mets were too big for surgery. Chemo started some 6 weeks after the colon job. Mets shrunk from cycle three. All in all the liver resection was almost 9 months after the colon job: first 6 week...

and here's a one! Just past the 5yr mark, despite bleak prognoses back in 2012. Initial years were tough, but normal life has returned, mostly. Still visiting ColonClub occasionally, though less frequently then earlier in the battle. Anxieties have gone too. Fully aware how lucky I've been. I hope y...

Nope. But we (DW+myself) were never excessive diners and continue to enjoy any types of meat, (shell)fish, veggies, pastas and an occasional drink.

Re: Any Stage 4 long term survivors/cured ?

I believe there are a lot if cured survivors I've been clear since liver resection of Oct 2013, despite 'palliative' diagnosis (inoperable liver mets) end 2012. Chemo killed all mets - see sign. Promoted to annual surveillance (CT + CEA) in June. I don't think I'm officially 'cured', but life is ba...
