Re: Healthy 42 year old diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer

Does anyone know why the doctors would choose Folfirri + Avastan vs Folfox? The oxaliplatin in FOLFOX can and often causes permanent, disabling painful neuropathy. I came back to this Internet forum tonight just in case I'd get the opportunity to warn somebody about possible long-term side effects ...

I think "controlled" means the same as stable.

Re: Question for those with lung mets or suspicious nodules in lungs

My largest lung mass was measured as 3.7 cm wide. I had other mets in my lungs with widths of about 2 cm. I was started on FOLFIRI. I could not tolerate the side effects, so I switched to a clinical trial at UCSD that used FoundationOne tumor profiling. I then started Mekinist with irinotecan. Now I...

Re: how manage side effects of Mekinist (a MEK inhibitor)?

I have a GI doc for colonoscopies. I had an EGD done in 2014 which found that I have chronic atrophic gastritis, and some of my gastric mucosa has disappeared.

how manage side effects of Mekinist (a MEK inhibitor)?

Hi. I'm putting this post out here even if it takes a long time for people to reply. Does anyone have advice on how to manage the gastrointestinal side effects of Mekinist/trametinib (a MEK inhibitor like cobimetinib)? I am armed with loperamide and cheap products that can be purchased from a drug s...

Re: Mental status changes

He may want to get a "liver panel" or CMP (Comprehensive metabolic panel) to make sure his liver is working well and removing toxins.

Re: Hellooo Neuropathyiiiiiiiiiii

Ana, the oxaliplatin does only a small part of the chemotherapy work. Most of the chemotherapy benefit comes from 5-fluorouracil (from Xeloda). I read somewhere that oxaliplatin improves survival by something like only 3%.

Re: Hellooo Neuropathyiiiiiiiiiii

Anyone has experience with Irinotecan and Capecitabine? Irinotecan causes rapid hair loss, much faster than FOLFOX does, but some hair remains. It also can cause urgent diarrhea at the infusion center, or the diarrhea comes as much as 5 days later after a constipated period, or not at all. Internal...

Ana, I have had problems with walking since a walking problem (buckling of the knees) curtailed my FOLFOX chemotherapy in September of 2015. I hope you don't develop a major neurological disorder like I did.

Are colon glandular cell surfaces unique?

I have chemobrain now, so that is my excuse if this topic seems stupid. I am not a cancer scientist or molecular/cellular biologist, so I don't know much about cell surfaces and man-made monoclonal antibody production. I don't know much about the glandular cells of the colon that caused my cancer. I...

Re: New here, coming out finally

Welcome to the forum. Since I was diagnosed in September as stage IV, I have found that "faking it" and "laughing it off" are the best ways for me to handle my undesirable fate. There are some posts from someone named "Frenchie" on this forum that made me laugh and help...
