Re: Tribute to my dear friend Anne - aka BeansMama

My heart is broken. My deepest condolences for your terrible loss. BeansMama was unfailingly positive and so encouraging to everyone no matter where she was in her own journey. A true gift to me and all of us here. I didn't post much, but always read her threads because they never failed to lift me ...

Re: Ideas to be supportive

Hi, 3shewolf8. It sounds to me like you are already being a good, supportive friend. Cancer treatment tends to be a marathon rather then a sprint. I agree with Rob in PA that the goal is surgery, and also with jhocho197, that your friend should find a good surgical oncologist. When my wife had her r...

Re: CEA climbing but still normal, CT negative

Hi, mdev. I understand what it's like watching the CEA going up. My wife also has a "low" CEA, but it kept going up for months. It is not a good indicator for her. With her, we watch other indicators, like her appetite, how tired she is, is she losing weight. She never had very obvious sym...

Re: Finding Financial Help

I'm so sorry you find yourselves in this awful position. My wife has only her VA medical benefits and it is limiting. one night in the local civilian hospital resulted in a $23,000 bill in addition to the ambulance. I believe that cancer is considered a catastrophic diagnosis, and may result in your...

Hi, exaussie,

I am so grateful that your daughter has a proactive doctor and a loving and vigilant parent. That right there works in her favor. Hugs for you both and prayers that the science catches up for your family. You are a righteous warrior.

Re: Recurrence?

Actually, as far as the doctors go at the VA, both in Wilkes Barre and Manhattan, we have been fortunate. They don't seem to be very used to older female veterans, but they are excellent doctors. It is the government bureaucracy that weighs care down for those who have FULLY EARNED IT. My wife canno...

Re: Colonoscopy next week..canceled previous two

I would also like to echo the comments before me. The prep sucks...the rest of it is easy peasy  I have had 10+ and never had an issue....nada. Like most things in life, the not knowing is the worst part. it is a new experience....and you don't know what to expect until you go through it. I sh...

Re: Recurrence? Update, April

What a long, strange trip it's been. Back in November, De's CT came back clean, so her onc just wanted to continue to monitor her CEA level. But I know my wife, and I could just tell things were not going right. She does not have "textbook" symptoms I think, but I noticed things. She was s...

Re: Recurrence?

De's doctor has agreed to giving her the results of the CT Scan on the 19th. We're grateful for that. In the meantime, my mind is trying to play the "figure out the cancer puzzle" game with me, so I need to step away from here for now. I have to get out of my own head and my own way. There...

Re: Recurrence?

Thanks all for the supportive replies, and hope. The CT SCAN has been scheduled and De has asked for a "wet read" - she won't leave the hospital without the results. She was a CT Tech for 20+ years and knows they can do this even though they say it will take a few days. She doesn't see her...

Recurrence?

I come here every single day; to learn, to keep up with people I've come to "know", to get to know the newly diagnosed, and the caregivers. I don't post, I just read. DW was declared NED on August 5th. So we're done. But I come here every day. I have learned to "be one with colon canc...

Re: Can anyone help me?

Hi Isabel, I'm sorry this has happened to your husband, and so soon after your son was born. Last September when my wife was diagnosed, it was such a shock. I couldn't understand why they didn't cancel their schedules to REMOVE th CANCER from my wife IMMEDIATELY! Of course, now I understand the proc...

Re: My support

Wow. Thank you. My DW and I thank all those who fought so hard before us. We celebrated our 1 year anniversary 10 days ago. We've been together 15 years. Seems we got married, had a great summer, and then she was diagnosed. She's treated at the VA Hospital, so we were so grateful that our state and ...
