Re: Breast cancer confirmed

Yes, "moderate" being a personal definition. I don't consider myself a wenie, especially since surviving CRC; so you know what page I'm on because you are there, too. You can get through it easiest with good preparation. And pain pills. And most importantly, a good recliner. My surgery wit...

Re: Breast cancer confirmed

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer recently, only 18 months after CRC dx. I chose mastectomy and reconstruction because of my diagnosis stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Had it been in situ I think I would have agreed to lumpectomy, even though the thought of more radiation gave me the shiver...

Re: Evolution of breast cancer

Hi, Lydia. Here's a quick summary of what is going on with me. I had a mammogram just before I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. It showed a cluster of microcalcifications that were removed and biopsied and were benign. That was in December of 2014. I went through the standard treatment for rectal c...

Re: Neupogen Back-To-Back Days

I needed 22 neupogen shots to complete 8 rounds of Folfox. They were given consecutively 24 hours after treatment for 4 or 5 days. I was a hot mess during chemo, but lived to tell the tale:)

Re: CT Scan Tuesday

Good morning, Judy I feel a need to tell you about my recent port experience. My port felt uncomfortable from the start, but during chemo I lost weight and it protruded to the point of being in the way of my brastrap, showed through my clothes and was bumped into a lot. I asked to have it removed be...

Re: Difficult decision: ULAR or APR?

I chose to be as aggressive with cancer as possible. The mere mention of a colostomy at my first consult with the colorectal surgeon caused my head to spin, but it was the best option in my case. I can honestly say I have little to no lifestyle change with the modern appliances available. I'm wearin...

Re: Problems with oxi

I can't imagine being your age, with small children, going through treatment. I am just over 4 weeks out from 8 rounds of Folfox. I wanted to quit at 6 because of the side effects, but my onc wanted me to have 12.(YIKES!!) He stopped me at 8 (WHEW!!) because of the the neuropathy, although I needed ...

Re: 5FU reactions?

I get esophageal spasms that feel like a heart attack when I am on the 5fu or Xeloda. The spasms are excruciating and for all I've been through since diagnosis, it's the one thing that makes me want to stop treatment. I've had 2 oncologists insist the 5fu or Xeloda do not have this side effect, but ...

Re: For anyone with a colostomy

I have the exact same thing going on with me. I got my colostomy in May, too. I've decided not to worry yet because I'm not having any discomfort and am passing gas, so something is working in there. Maybe we should put a call into our stoma nurses if we continue to have output concerns. I was wonde...

Re: a serious question that may sound stupid

Thank you for responses to my question. I've spent hours reading this forum since my diagnosis and I felt certain I'd get sound info here. I've lost nearly 30 lbs since first round of chemo & radiation & surgery. I didn't have that weight to spare, which is the main reason I've considered my...

Re: Who had stage 1 and 2 rectal, and how did it go?

Stage 2 rc t3/n0/m/0 not enough margin to save sphincter, so 5/28/15 had rectum removed and anus sewed shut. It's been a really rough road for me, but my colorectal surgeon said I'm among 8% of his patients with so many complications. I'm feeling better every day at this point. Next step, adjuvant c...

a serious question that may sound stupid

I have a friend with MS who has managed her pain, appetite and sleep with marijuana butter she cooks up herself. We live in Indiana and can't get a prescription for legal medical marijuana. She's used her butter for as long as 20yrs and her doctors have never mentioned finding it in her blood screen...

Re: APR surgery

Thank you for responding. I am not having a good day today. My bladder won't work. They put the catheter back in and called in a urologist, and I'm betting on radiation damage. It's been giving me problems since mid March. The stoma is blowing gas bubbles for me. It's kind of sweet. What an adventur...

APR surgery

I posted a cry for help several weeks ago about making the decision whether to have apr surgery or take a watch and wait approach. The advice given was to have the surgery and so I had it done last Thursday 05/28. <Ouch> I'm glad you talked me into it and you were right, I'm sitting and walking alre...
