Loss of my sister

I haven't posted in a while because I've been completely devastated by the loss of my sister. She passed away on August 19, 2011 after a year and half battle with signet cell colorectal cancer. Her situation was rare and aggressive, but she fought with every power and strength that she had. In Octob...

Re: Sister's HIPEC didn't happen today - HELP!!

Tim - I tried to send you a PM but it won't go through. Can you elaboratate on the clinical trial that you will be going through? Thank you. I'm worried about my sister going back on chemotherapy with no other options available. I've been researching clinical trials, but it is very overwhelming and ...

Re: Sister's HIPEC didn't happen today - HELP!!

Joeyooser - I sent you a private message to ask for more information about the clinical trial that you will undergo. Did you receive it? I looked in my sent folder but it didn't appear that it was sent. Thank you.

Sister's HIPEC didn't happen today - HELP!!

Please help!! My sister went to the operating room today for HIPEC/CRC. The surgeon found that her tumor was in the entire pelvic region and fixated. He was unable to go further. He stated that he wouldn't be able to remove the tumor entirely and it wouldn't be beneficial or safe to attempt removal....

Re: My sister's HIPEC is schedule for May 4th

Thank you for everyone's replies and words of encouragement. Scottg - congratulations on your NED. That is amazing!! Were you diagnosed with signet ring? I am still very nervous about my sister's surgery and the anxiety is getting worse as the time nears. I just don't want to see her in pain or agon...

Re: My sister's HIPEC is schedule for May 4th

Thank you Ashlee and SkiFletch. One last thing - should I be nervous that this will be the first case done in Michigan? The surgeon did his training at MD Anderson and moved back to Michigan in October after his training. We really like him and he seems very knowlegable. It's so hard when you're put...

Re: My sister's HIPEC is schedule for May 4th

Thank you SkiFletch!!! She is really concerned about the nausea and vomiting. I'm not going to tell her about the NG tube because this was her biggest complaint when she went in for her bowel obstruction. Did you receive nutrition through the NG tube or did you have the massive (unbendable) plastic ...

Re: Diagnosis of Lynch Syndrome

Do you know what variant it is? My sister is being worked up genetically and she has a variant as well, but they are uncertain if this is the cause of her cancer. They are continuing to do more tests. Her variant was in the PM2 gene (c.2006t6g>A)(intron 11 of PMS gene). Now, ask me what that means -...

My sister's HIPEC is schedule for May 4th

Oh my goodness. The time has come. My sister is scheduled for HIPEC on May 4th. She had a CT scan done on Monday and there was no evidence of new metastases. This is wonderful news, but terrifying in the same sense. Because of her signet cell pathology, I am still terrified of what will happen when ...

Re: If you want prayer stop in here!

Please help pray for my sister Tara!! She has a follow up CT scan on Monday to determine if her cancer has spread outside of the peritoneal cavity and omentum. If her scan remains the same, she will undergo HIPEC and CRC in a few weeks. Thank you in advance. I also started a facebook page for her, &...

Please help pray for my sister

My sister will have a repeat CT scan on 4/18 to determine if her cancer remains localized to her peritoneal cavity and omentum. With her cancer being signet cell, unfortunately, the CT scan may not completely pick up additional cancer. In October, she underwent surgery to have her rectal tumor remov...

Re: Gastric signet ring cell adenocarcinoma, stage 4 liver m

Hi Anna, I don't know if this helps, but when my sister was originally diagnosed with Stage IV, I contacted several doctors regarding the HIPEC procedure. Each and every office that I contacted was wonderful. Also, some amazing individuals on this website introduced me to hipectreatment.org. You can...

Re: HIPEC Doctor Reco and Experiences

Hi Jen, I can certainly empathize with your pain. My sister was diagnosed at age 29 with Stage IV colorectal cancer (mets to her peritoneal cavity and omentum). Our father passed away in June after a short battle with Stage IV gastric cancer. This past year, my sister has been through numerous proce...

Re: Gastric signet ring cell adenocarcinoma, stage 4 liver m

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. My sister was diagnosed with Stage III signet cell colorectal cancer in April 2010. Just prior to her diagnosis, my father was diagnosed with signet cell gastric cancer in Feb 2010. Unfortunately, my father was opposed to any treatment and did not undergo ...
