Prednisone & Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

I haven't posted for awhile but I have been following the messages here on a regular basis. I searched this board and found there was very little on this subject, so it may be of interest to some of you. Pardon me if it's long but I meant to post it in shorter increments and didn't get around to it....

Re: Starting to have doubts about gastroenterologists

It may be worth asking your oncologist to obtain copies of the reports from the gastroenterologists. And then you can get a copy from the oncologist. Biopsy and colonoscopy reports should always be cc'd to your oncologist. Regarding the stopping of Xeloda because of HNPCC - I have not heard of this...

Starting to have doubts about gastroenterologists

My mom (elderly woman) who was diagnosed with colon cancer last December and operated on at the end of January (laparoscopic hemicolectomy), went in for her follow up colonoscopy this week. She's was classified as Stage 2 T4 (all tested lymph nodes were negative). She took Xeloda for three months an...

Re: Moviprep - colonoscopy prep

How did the 2nd round (2nd liter) go? Usually one is cleaned out after the 2nd liter. My elderly mom drank the Golytely gallon prep before her first colonoscopy four years ago and had a difficult time with it. I asked her last year's gastroenterologist which one would cause her the least nausea when...

Re: Xeloda not effective if positive for MSI-H?

Mitchell: I don't think she's been tested yet for Lynch Syndrome. Considering the various questions that have come up with Medicare and her insurance companies, we wanted to make sure she didn't need a prior authorization for further testing (apparently she doesn't and we're told Medicare will cover...

Re: microsatellite instability, dMMR, chemo, etc.

As I've written in a previous post, my mom has tested 100% positive for MSI-H (she's Stage II T-4), and her oncologist has also recommended that she stop Xeloda treatments (which she has done). There were five markers tested and all were unstable (100%). I also believe this oncologist was at the ASC...

Re: Xeloda not effective if positive for MSI-H?

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your advice, suggestions, and information. There's so much pertinent knowledge I gained from Colonclub.com, and it's the reason I'm soon going to need a new laser toner cartridge! Last Friday I took my mom for her first modified Xelox treatment. I woke up...

Re: Xeloda not effective if positive for MSI-H?

Sorry I took awhile to respond. Between tending to my mom, answering her medical questions as best I can, dealing with her insurance companies, and handling my own personal chores, I can't believe how fast the time passes. I want to thank you so much for your kindness in responding. I keep telling t...

Xeloda not effective if positive for MSI-H?

My mom had the Genzyme Labs DNA test (her oncologist requested her pathology slides for further testing) and the result is that she was positive for High Frequency Microsatellite Instability (MSI-H). The oncologist told us that findings show that Xeloda may not be effective for patients who are posi...

Re: Best way to treat stomach cramps for elderly mom on Xeloda?

Thanks for responding, Jaynee. In answer to your question, yes, she is taking the Xeloda within 30 minutes after eating. The problem is that she either has no appetite or eats very little. She also doesn't space the pill taking far enough apart. I think the takes the pills at 10 AM and then again at...

Best way to treat stomach cramps for elderly mom on Xeloda?

It's been a while since I last posted. My 85 yo mom had her laparascopic colon operation 4 1/2 months ago, and after consulting with three oncologists, started on Xeloda in late March. Since she was diagnosted as a Stage 2 - T4, all the studies are inconclusive as to the effectiveness of chemo, espe...

Re: xelota

pearlgirl, My mom actually took it for 6 months, as she was diagnosed before me. I am just going by what my onc told me, nothing else. Carol, may I ask you how your mom handled Xeloda and what her dosage was? My mom is 85 years old and will probably start taking Xeloda this week. Her dosage is 2 x ...

Housework and exercise after colon resection - how soon?

My 85 year old mom has been too depressed to take a walk in the street since her laparoscopic resection surgery 7 weeks ago, so I guess I should be overjoyed when she told me she cleaned the kitchen a bit today. However, I was worried about her internal resected colon sutures. She's always been a st...

I want to thank you all for your concern and advice. We saw another oncologist yesterday, and once again we were unsure of what to do. This one quoted the same stats from http://www.adjuvantonline.com/index.jsp as the previous oncologist, but feels that my mom should try chemo using Xeloda. In addit...

Chemo and the elderly?

My mom is in her mid-eighties and was in otherwise good health for her age until her diagnosis of colon cancer. She went in for her colon resection a month and a half ago (laparoscopic) and except for a loss of blood and a transfusion in recovery (she was anemic before the operation). and bloating f...
