Re: Oxiplatin peripheral neurapathy

I think my experience with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is pretty typical. I began noticing sensitivity to cold during my very first treatment, which was in March. Cold winds hit my face and within seconds my fingers would begin to tingle. By the third or fourth FOLFOX treatment I noti...

Re: Oxyplatin advice ?

One of the most common concerns about treatment involving Oxaliplatin is the likelihood of developing Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy. I've been doing a fair amount of research into this problem lately as I have it and want to try to heal it as much as possible. Since your father is about...

Re: How do you pull yourself out of the dark?

I have been prone to depression and when I heard my diagnosis last year I was quite fearful that it would send me into a dark place from which I would have a tough time finding an exit. I mostly fought it off with humor, in particular with film comedies. I watched at least one comedy daily for almos...

Re: Surprising news from my dermatologist

I just noticed last night that a spot had disappeared from my leg. A few years ago the spot appeared and it scared the crap out of me. The dermatologist told me it was just an age spot and that she could remove it pretty easily. I said I'd live with it and now, a few years older, my age spot is gone...

Re: The Port

I had mine removed last week - glad to be done with the last remaining evidence of my treatment! It was never much of a bother, and I joked a lot about having my own built-in USB port for in and out transfers. Taking showers was when I noticed it most, or sometimes my wife would lay her head on my c...

My experience is not precisely the same as yours but I am one of dozens of people who post here regularly who have beaten Stage III Colorectal Cancer. You can see the basic stats on my case in my signature below, but the key point is that there will be times when you swear on all that is holy that t...

Re: Did the aroma of your gas change after resection?

A bit off topic... Sort of... One thing I recently noticed..... I've been on antibiotics for almost two months straight... Amoxicillian... I'm finally off them... I figured my natual gut floria was dead so started eating yogourt, and took Acidophilus... Suddenly my ileostomy goo smells real funky! ...

Re: Surprising news from my dermatologist

I noticed that a patch of dry skin that has persisted on one of my elbows completely cleared up during chemo that involved 5FU. This little benefit (which has begun to reverse itself now that I'm off the regular schedule of stabbings and poisonings), doesn't quite offset the neuropathy, but it was a...

Re: Did the aroma of your gas change after resection?

Yesterday I had a visit with my surgeon to remove my Mediport. I asked him to clarify how much colon he removed during the resection - about a foot, he said. And then I told him about having noticed a change in the aroma of my gas and he said it was probably due to changes in the gut flora in the sm...

Re: Oxaliplatin Stopped At 7

I also had an allergic reaction to the oxi during treatment #7 so that was the last time I had any in my treatments. In fact, before signing on to start the chemo, I was offered a chance to participate in a study to check on the effectiveness of 6 FOLFOX/5FU treatments versus the currently common 12...

Re: So is this normal after only one infusion of Oxi?

I distinctly remember that my first episode of neuropathy happened during my initial treatment. I went to an evening meeting and it was cold outside. I stood around in the parking lot after the meeting to chat with a friend for 5 minutes before we got in our cars, and I had barely shut my car door w...

Re: Did the aroma of your gas change after resection?

OMG...not only the smell but the inability to prevent the farts. I hate how they sneak out uncontrollable especially when you are talking to people. I find myself heading down empty store aisles knowing the bomb I'll be letting go. My husband thinks I'm doing it on purpose...yeah, I love the embarr...

Re: Did the aroma of your gas change after resection?

I know that having Cancer changes you, some for the better and some for the worse. For me mostly better, I definitely think that I am a more empathetic and caring person now. This makes a lot of sense to me. I know I'm MUCH more likely to take time to listen to other people's stories of medical pro...

Re: Did the aroma of your gas change after resection?

I'm so glad that all of you have replied so quickly. You can add me to the list of the "more often than before" crowd, too. The really strange part of this is that now, even months after I noticed the change, I still feel like this means that I'm no longer the same person that I used to be...
