Re: New and scared from Oregon

Hey fellow Oregonian! I'm sorry you had to find your way here, but it is a good place to find info and friends. I have found a good support group here in Portland. It is at my Kaiser location, but all are welcome, for free. There is a "sticky" at the top of the forum about where to find su...

Good news, or, it could be worse

Last April my scans showed that chemo was no longer working for me. Since then I have had no chemo, and have felt great, but worried. When rego was approved by the FDA, I called and got an appt. with my onc. I had a ct scan and blood work right before so we would know what is my current condition. I...

Re: Regorafenib experiences

A research doctor that I talked to said that 50% of the patients on rego after 8 weeks showed progression and had to discontinue, and 50% showed stable or better. She said that they had no idea why some benefited and others didn't. Has any one else heard this? I see my onc next Friday and if all loo...

Re: Zaltrap - anyone on it?

I noticed that Kathryn in on Zaltrap and irinotecan only, and KarMel is on folfiri and zaltrap. I am curious about that. It seems like eliminating the 5Fu would make it easier to tolerate, but is it as effective? I am assuming that both of you have failed on 5Fu and irinotecan, but still get it now ...

Re: Regorafenib experiences

KarMel, I think you are the first one here who is on folfiri and zaltrap. Since that seems to come next after rego, I would like to hear more about what that is like. Is it easier to deal with than rego? If so, does it make more sense to go with folfiri and zaltrap, and then rego? Hope your are doin...

Re: What the heck is happening here?

Lori, I couldn't agree with you more, esp, the part about not beinging able to spell! (and I have made some boners myself!) Maybe it has to do with phases of the moon, but every once in a while, otherwise sensible people go nuts. It is either entertaining (hand me the popcorn) or upsetting, dependin...

Re: Picking treatment center

I agree with that you should get a third opinion. If you decide on chemo you should be able to get that locally, and not have to travel to Sloan Kettering. Best wishes, Susan

Re: Colon and liver resection at the same time?

I had a port inserted, a part of my liver resected, one liver met RFA'ed, and part of my colon resected all in one surgery. The first 48 hours after surgery were awful, but after that I had a quick recovery. It was done laparoscopicly, and that makes for an easier recovery. I wanted it all at once, ...

Re: Any stage IV considered delaying chemo?

For me, as long as there was a chance of a cure, I was willing to go all out, chemo, surgery, SBRT, etc. Once I knew I was incurable, it became a matter of quality versus quanity. I ran out of chemo options in April, and Kaiser had no suitable trials for me. I had a long talk with a trial oncologist...

Re: Clinical Trials - good or bad?

This is a tough one. I was unresectable at dx, so I had six months on a trial with Folfox, Erbitux and Avastin. At that point I became a candidate for surgery with curative intent, followed by six more months of Folfox and Avastin. Didn't lead to a cure, but that is another story. Since your situati...

I, too, really appreciate your updates on Regorafenib. I am hoping (if that is the right word) to go on it later this summer, so I am following your progress with keen interest. We are all hoping you get good results with this one. Susan

Re: Antioxidants And Chemotherapy

I read the article, and it said what my onc. says. It is good to eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits and veggies, but talk to your doctor or oncology pharmatist before taking supplements. You can't eat too much broccoli, but it is very easy to mega-dose with pills, and there is a risk that too mu...

Re: Stage IV Living with Cancer 3 or more years

Dx'ed May 2007. My history is in my signature. I was doing pretty well until April 2011 when the scan showed 30 to 40 lung mets. After a year of chemo I am out of chemo options. I am currently off chemo and feel good, no symptoms of cancer. I am looking at trials, or, my first choice, regorafenib. T...
