Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

Hello! I'm now 9 years NED. I haven't been on the forum for ages but suddenly felt like checking in. I am glad to see so many familiar "faces" still here and still doing well. I started a volunteer gig with the Canadian Cancer Society as a peer coach for people who are recently diagnosed w...

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing!

I pop on this forum every now and then to catch up with certain people and I'm glad to see so many in this particular thread, who were around when I first joined in 2010, are still doing well. This post made my day! :D

Re: Can anyone help me?

For your reference: I have lynch syndrome. My tumour was about 7cm, near the cecum, and i was staged at 3c due to lymph node spread. I had a right hemicolectomy. I just passed my 5 year "cured" mark, totally healthy and my quality of life is much the same as before diagnosis. I know it's t...

I think about you two - and also others in our demographic that were not fortunate - a lot. Good to hear from you John.

Re: Hey--What's up with NED Posters?

Every member here, NED or not, has a role. Some of us need things from this forum. Some of us give things to this forum. When I was diagnosed and in treatment, I needed things from this forum. I remember searching for people with similar staging as me and desperately looking for long term survivors ...

Re: When do you stop seeing oncologist?

I stopped in September 2011, about 6 months after completing chemo, and about 16 months after dx.. I wanted to be discharged to a regular family doctor for follow ups so I wouldn't have to go to the cancer clinic all the time. The oncologist agreed. I think it helped being out of the cancer care sys...

Re: Will I ever stop thinking about cancer?

I rarely think about it anymore. I really only think of it when I'm going in for a test.

Yes, it is possible that at some point you will have more days when you don't think about than days that you do. The key is to distract yourself with a very awesome life.

Re: Toothpaste!

Weleda makes a toothpaste out of aloe gel. Not only will it prevent the issue, it might actually help as aloe is a healing compound. Highly recommended. You can get it at health food stores, whole foods, or other such places.

Re: Is there anything more I should be doing?

I am also IIIC and almost to the 5 year mark. Here's what I do: Exercise. Almost every day, even if it's just for a walk. Find a way to build activity into your life if you don't like formal exercise. I walk to work. Eat organic, and a diet very heavy on plants and not so much on meat. Invest in the...

Re: 2014 member update -- for all of us--please post!

I am still good. My next bloodwork is next week, my next big scan is in May. I'll hit my 5 year mark NED on July 6, 2015. I have had a few liver lump scares over the past year but so far everyone is saying benign.

I still check in here once in awhile. :)
