Re: Adenomatous Colon Polyps Question

I will ask Jon or Steve or one of the others from the Gardner's group to reply, as I am in South Africa (where there are no such centres). Whereabouts are you?

Re: Adenomatous Colon Polyps Question

I am so glad that I was able to help you out, kevsfrannie!! I am only returning the favours I have received from others on this forum and on the Gardner's list (many, many!!). The extra-intestinal manifestations of FAP are often unrecognised (or not linked) by doctors and yet they are such a vital p...

Re: How common are mets to ovaries?

Hi Dori I initially presented with a 9,5cm ovarian cyst which the doctor decided to remove and when the went in to remove it, happened to see the colon cancer, which turned out to be primary metastatic to the ovaries. Two weeks later I had a radical hysterectomy and there were cancer cells in the ot...

Re: Adenomatous Colon Polyps Question

Hi Kevsfrannie I was diagnosed with FAP in April 2006, unfortunately also with colon cancer metastatic to the ovaries. Also no previous symptoms and a healthy lifestyle. I had a colonoscopy done after my colon resection and ovarian tumour removal operation and the surgeon found lots of tiny polyps. ...

Re: My Mom's Colonoscophy Today

Kelly Does she have polyps anywhere else or only in her rectum? It starting to sound more like polyposis. Do you have or have you had polyps? Have you ever looked at the FAP forum - lots of info there, even if are not a polyposis family? Some of the people there with FAP are using curcumin (with que...

Sue

If your k-ras is normal (not mutated), then the class of drug should WORK for you.

Bradyr

That sounds quite right - your k-ras is normal, so the drugs WILL work for you.

Re: KRAS test results--I am confused

NORMAL k-ras = WILD TYPE
FUNNY k-Ras = MUTATED

You must have NORMAL k-ras for the class of drugs to work.
If you have FUNNY k-ras, they won't work.

Re: The Avastin Study

Good for you Brendaindy. I would have done it too. I hope it goes well for you. And don't feel like the money part of it isn't important - it really is - many people are denied access to these expensive drugs because their medical plans don't cover it.

Re: 1 year post surgery colonoscopy question

Hi Caligirl I think it varies from person to person. I have scopes every 6 months since April 2007 when they found the colon cancer. In the first scope (May 2007) there were too many polyps to remove. Then 6 months later, they had improved dramatically (due to chemo we thin) and only a few were foun...

Re: leucovorin not avalable to me

This is quite uncanny. I have an issue with availability of (leucovorin) folinic acid as well. But I stay in South Africa! My problem is that I have been prescribed UFT (which is an oral form of 5-FU - not available in the States). And together with that, oral folinic acid must be taken. It is not a...

Re: Starting to have doubts about gastroenterologists

Glad you will get hold of the oncologist - they are normally quite willing to "share" reports for decision making. Thanks for the explanation on the HNPCC (hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer and MSI-H. I think there is still a lot of doubt as to the use of MSI-H as a predictor of e...

Re: Lipitor

Have you tried strict diet, exercise and lifestyle changes (reduced stress, etc)? Very strictly. It also depends if you have any additional risk factors like family history, high blood pressure or obesity, age. Has your doctor done a full lipogram - that breaks down the cholesterol into LDLs (bad ch...

Re: Avastin questions

The half life of Avastin is long, but I have heard recommendations of waiting 5-6 weeks before surgery.

To be honest, I think the FOLFOX side effects are likely to be more problematic than the Avastin ones, although it does vary from person to person. Decisions like this are never easy.
