Re: NEW THREAD FOR LOVED ONES LEFT BEHIND ONGOING

It's been a while since I've posted. First of all, sending all sorts of well wishes to Helen for her upcoming surgery!!! Vicki, I experience the same as you in that the big emotions hit at the most unexpected of times. I about lost it the first time I went to the butcher store where we always went t...

Re: NEW THREAD FOR LOVED ONES LEFT BEHIND ONGOING

Last week my stepson wrote to say he's leaving his current job for a new one and that he will be moving. Yesterday my grandson provided a link to the law firm he's joining, his first professional job since earning his law degree. My first thought was to tell Joe...but of course he's not here any lon...

Re: NEW THREAD FOR LOVED ONES LEFT BEHIND ONGOING

This is the first time for me to write in this thread. It's been a week since Joe died, a very tearful week to be sure. At they do crop up at strange times and unexpected places. I'm so grateful for my friends who have been hovering around me, inviting me over, going places with me just so I won't b...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Wow, it all went so quickly and yet it feels like it was ages. I'd hoped for some more quality time but the decline in health was rapid and I quickly realized there would be no bounce, no regaining strength, so each day forward was quality time. He died in the early morning hours today. His children...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Well our scan result was mixed but not in a good way. The best part was that there are no new mets and the previously identified ones remain the same except for one that's grown a bit. The bad news is that the previously identified ones remain the same and no shrinkage detected. Chemo #5 really knoc...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Livingbyfaith, here's hoping, praying, positive thoughts that your DH gets a positive scan!!! My DH is getting his 1st scan on Dec 9, his first since treatment started, this after 5 treatments. His CEA numbers have dropped from a high of 38 to the most recent of 14.4 so that is encouraging. However,...

Re: In the BLINK of an EYE

Awesome! All of it...the nostalgia...the meals...the outing for the big-ass tree. I love the love and your ability to manage and observe the big and small details. You inspire me with thoughts of what I may be facing all too soon. Thank you for sharing! You must have incredible stamina....and love. tc

Re: Can't Gain Weight

My husband was prescribed Megace (Megestrol Acetate) after weight loss, lack of appetite, and nausea. His is a liquid taken twice a day (a small spoonful) and it has helped him quite a lot. The nausea went away and his appetite picked up and he now eats a decent amount each mealtime. He was also adv...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Happy Thanksgiving to all!! We're celebrating Thanksgiving by ourselves today. I'm thankful that DH is enjoying food again since starting on Megestrol Acetate. It's been a blessing because he not only enjoys eating again but it's also taken away the nausea feeling he had every morning. Yay!! On a bi...

Re: Questions about recurrent ascites

The concern is risk of infection as you noted. As I understand it, chemo lowers immunity to infections so the surgeon said they don't recommend catheter while in treatment. However, if it was a matter of having difficulty breathing my bet is that the surgeon would do what he could to relieve that wo...

Re: Questions about recurrent ascites

Thank you for your responses. I was told that a catheter to remove fluid might be in his future but not while undergoing chemo treatment. Vegas, that's a lot of fluid that was removed and I had no idea it could accumulate so rapidly. Thanks for letting me know about your experience. It must have bee...

Re: Questions about recurrent ascites

I'll have to ask about having the fluid tested. I was sort of going with the assumption that it most likely is malignant due to the proliferation of mets on the peritoneum. Quality of life is definitely of prime importance to us. We hope the rounds of chemo knocks back the tumors but from what I rea...

Questions about recurrent ascites

I'm learning all these new words and ascites is one of them. DH is dealing with it and has had paracentesis three times now. The amount of fluid removed has been 3, 5, and 4 liters respectively. This over a period of two months. Seems fair to me to call it recurrent. He is stage IV crc with mets on ...

Megestrol equals mega appetite

My husband just completed his 4th chemo infusion and has one more to go before he gets a chemo break. The side effects of the first 3 rounds was the usual nausea, lack of appetite, fatigue. Lack of appetite hardly describes his avoidance of foods because nothing tasted right or the thought of eating...
