Re: Local Excision Pain and Recovery Time

They couldn't reach mine without a proctoscope; so I had TEMS instead of simple local excision. After that I was sore enough to need some vicodin for 2 weeks (perhaps out of a 4-week prescription suggesting that was the expectation) and non-prescription pain killers another week or two. After the 10...

Re: Stool DNA Testing for Colon Cancer

The task force apparently thinks that too many patients will be sent off to have a colonoscopy when this is not in fact necessary and it would put too many patients at additional risk of an unnecessary invasive procedure. Also, the FIT-DNA test is more expensive than the standard Fecal Immunochemic...

Re: How much Miralax & Dulcolax for prep?

Having a colonoscopy with a new doc on short notice. They called in the pricey stuff which I will not be buying. Did a quick search online to find instructions and I'm curious.....I am finding instructions to take 4 Dulcolax and to mix 510 grams of Miralax with liquid (Gatorade for me). I believe I...

ERUS prep?

How much prep is really necessary for ERUS?

I have a new GI doing mine and he wants a full colonoscopy prep and clear liquid diet the day before which means I'm going to lose two days of work.

That seems excessive with a pair of Fleet enemas doing the trick for my flexible sigmoidoscopies.

Re: Colon Prep Question

My mother is having her first colonoscopy on January 7. For a few extra dollars, she is having a colonic (colon hydrotherapy?) to flush her system just prior to her procedure without having to take all that prep liquid. The gastroenteroIogist said medicare and/or insurance would not pay for it. I w...

Protocol when 1-year colonoscopy is not clear?

What's the protocol when the one-year colonscopy finds a small polyp (pathology report pending, although with one rectal adenocarcinoma plus one adenomatous sigmoid polyp from my first one I'm betting the new left side polyp is also an adenoma)? 1-year follow ups until clear to establish whether the...

Re: New to forum, rectal cancer, must make surgery choice -- help!

What to do? Screening colonoscopy found rectal cancer four weeks ago. CT scan & MRI imaging and labs are encouraging -- max T2 (says the radiologist), extremely low CEA, no apparent lymph involvement -- but the polyp is 4.4 x 2.2 x 1.5cm and located very close to the anus. The surgeon, who is a...

Re: I'm terrified.

I have my appointment with my surgeon to get my colonoscopy in a few days. BTW anybody have any prep tips for that? Miralax which is flavorless because it doesn't have electrolytes mixed in. If you're worried you can get those separately in SaltStick capsules, although many GIs are satisfied to go ...

Re: Getting Pico-Salax from Canada

My first GI ordered just the Miralax - 14 doses plus 2 double doses 4 hours before (or at midnight for early AM colonoscopies). I also ate 3 dulcolax pills the night before prep so I'd have less to poop out like a volcano. That worked great - everything was pink and clean up to my cecum . My surgeon...

3mm lung nodule concurrent with stage 1 RC standard of care

I saw my GP for my annual physical and she went over my medical record including the report from my staging chest CT scan a year ago that showed a single 3mm lung nodule although my oncologist reported it as clear. There was no PET scan. What's the standard follow-up protocol for that? Cursory web s...

Re: Who had stage 1 and 2 rectal, and how did it go?

I am having my first scans next week and hoping for some good news. I would love to hear some positive stories of stage 1 or 2 ... I need to keep my calm until i know the extent of my problem. Thank you. Stage 1. One tan sessile polyp measuring 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm. Adenocarcinoma, invasive at least ...

Re: Endoscopy experience

There was no way I was going to even talk to a GI if there was any way I'd remember the experience. My wife called and found out they can give problem patients propofol for deeper sedation. I did that and remember nothing.

Re: 4cm polyp! Freaking out

Ok, so mine was cancer after all. Tubular adenocarcinoma with High grade displasia. But apperently margins are free of cancer cells according to path report. I am devastated and relieved at the same time. What should I do now? I talked to my doc on the phone, he said another colonoscopy in 3 months...

Re: 4cm polyp! Freaking out

I don't think high grade dysplasia is cancer. For practical purposes it's not because the offending cells remain in the mucosal layer which lacks lymph and blood vessels that would allow it to spread. Being pedantic some doctors would describe things differently, although "cancer lite" is...

Re: 4cm polyp! Freaking out

Hi, thanks for your reply. I got a letter from my GI doctor today. His letter said that he removed a tubulovillous adenoma in my sigmoid colon. His letter said he removed it completely, & to follow up in 3 years. I know this is one of the more dangerous colon polyps, and is rare in my age group...
