Re: APR surgery for low rectal tumor

I would also recommend a second opinion. APR is is a big surgery and takes quite a while to recover, so I'd want to be 100% sure that a less invasive option wouldn't be possible before moving forward. My husband originally had LAR, then APR due to local recurrence.

Update

I don't post much here anymore (more active on the Colontown Facebook groups) but figured I should provide an update. My husband's local recurrence of rectal cancer continued to grow throughout three clinical trials. The tumor is low in his pelvis and has broken through the skin of his perineum, cau...

Re: Goodbye

I would like to sincerely thank you, Risto (and you as well, GrouseMan) for sharing your experiences with us. As caregiver to someone with Stage IV cancer, fear of the end/hospice/unknown is always in the back of my mind. Your openness and honesty are helpful to me and to the many other people readi...

Re: Adverse reaction to capecitabine?

Did your mom's oncologist prescribe Zofran and Lomotil with the capecitabine? Zofran is for nausea/vomiting and Lomotil is for diarrhea. Frankly I don't think she should have to ask for either of these when on chemo, they should have just given them to her. Nurse practitioner at my husband's oncolog...

Re: It's baaaaaaack!

This has nothing to do with colon cancer, but I encourage you to take early retirement if it's an option for you. My dad was unsure if he should stop working at 62 or keep at it for a few more years in order to receive more Social Security. He decided to go for it and retired shortly after his 62nd ...

lovemyameliasky You must be worried sick. Believe it or not, you'll probably feel a little better once you have a plan.

Have your doctors been able to give you ANY information yet about your tumor?

How are they addressing your pain?

Re: Just diagnosed and it's EVERYWHERE...what to do now??

You must be completely shell-shocked right now. Just remember, nobody knows your expiration date. My husband was given six months after his rectal cancer recurred; that was two years ago. The first thing I'd want to know in your situation is whether my cancer is MSS or MSI and what specific mutation...

Re: Rectal Cancer

I'm not an expert, but my husband has been fighting rectal cancer for almost 4 years. Here's my take; hope others will correct me if I'm wrong. "Multiple non-bleeding diverticula were seen in the descending colon and sigmoid colon. Diverticulosis appeared to be of moderate severity." Diver...

Re: Partial radiation

Would his doctors be willing to prescribe Valium or Ativan to help with sleep for the next couple weeks?

Re: Napabucasin and Folfiri plus Avastin- anyone on this trial?

My husband had two stable scans on the BBI-608 trial with FOLFIRI. At that point, due to some unrelated kidney problems (ureter obstruction caused by radiation) he was unable to receive FOLFIRI for seven weeks and unfortunately the next scan showed progression. However, growth WAS controlled when he...

Re: Help with Disability please!

My husband also applied for SSDI when his cancer was deemed inoperable/stage IV. I believe they fast-track the approval process for stage IV, and the people I spoke to at the social security office were very sympathetic and helpful. However, SSDI begins paying 6 months after the established date of ...

Re: Napabucasin and Folfiri plus Avastin- anyone on this trial?

Quick update... scans in July showed minor progression on Xeloda/Avastin. Received word today that my husband has been accepted into NCT02024607 (BBI608, also known as Napabucasin + FOLFIRI arm) at Mayo Clinic. He will take his first dose of the drug this Friday 9/1, and will get his first infusion ...
