Re: Lap resection surgery set for Dec

Hope you can get a laparoscopic procedure. Had mine Thursday morning and was home walking my dogs on Saturday afternoon. Last dose of pain meds on Monday and walked 3.5 miles. Chemo was no so good though.

Re: Does it always turn?

I am over 2.5 years out and still NED. Oncologist is going to cut me loose after next visit in a few months if lab work is still the same. 8)

Re: Alcohol and Capecitabine

I had wine (red, of course) and Vodka martinis while taking Capecitabine. No problems, but everyone reacts differently. So listen to your body.

Re: Side effects of Capecitabine, or Xeloda

Only problems that I had with Capecitabine were fairly servere Hand-Foot syndrome and stomach issues. Switched to Prilosec from Xantac (took care of stomach issues) and Oncologist was fairly aggressive with dose reduction for foot issues. I still have some foot and hand issues almost 2 years out fro...

Re: $$561 a month for Xeloda on Medicare??? Help!!

I went through adjuvant therapy with generic Xeloda on Medicare. It was covered under Part B benefits. My Medigap is BCBS plan F with covers all co-pays and deductibles. So I had no out of pocket expenses.

Re: Sides of mouth cracks

Likely Cheilitis. Very common in "Seasoned Citizens". I currently am recovering from it. Your GP or Dermatologist can give you an anti fungal cream.

Re: Neuropathy

I am 18 months post chemo (Xeloda). I have neuropathy in hands and feet. I have gone the usual route with merino wool socks year round and insulated insoles in colder weather. I am taking 1800 mg of Gabapentin (one dose in the morning) and my doctor wants to also add some Lyrica to my next cycle rat...

Re: Laporascopic or open surgery for colon cancer

I chose the robot because my surgeon said "it makes me a better surgeon". That was all I needed to hear. Actually there were two surgeons involved. My surgeon operated the robot seated at a console while a second surgeon position the robot at table side. I worked in the medical equipment f...

Re: Laporascopic or open surgery for colon cancer

Absolutely choose laparoscopic if given an option. I was fortunate to have a very skilled colorectal surgeon that performed my procedure using the DaVinci robot. I had surgery Thursday morning and I was home walking my dogs on Saturday afternoon. On Monday, I walked 3.5 miles in a hilly area. I suff...

Re: Survey on bad habits

I am pushing 70 years old and I am a smoker. I also drink potato vodka martinis routinely when the mood strikes. I have two glasses of red wine with dinner each night. If you give up all of your bad habits you may possibly live longer, but it will certainly seem longer.

Re: To each his own: Your personal neuropathy experience

Before 8 rounds of Xeloda as adjuvant therapy for Stage 2 colon cancer, I had very minor neuropathy in my toes during very cold weather and Renaud's syndrome in two fingers. During chemo I developed HFS that required a dose reduction to control. About a month after chemo, I stared to develop numbnes...

Re: Medicare question

I am on Medicare with supplement Plan F and Part D from BCBS. I did not pay one cent out of pocket for my colon surgery, chemo or any visits or tests. While my wife and I pay nearly S10,000/yr for coverage it has been a very good deal. I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes, again no co-pays.
