Re: Is a 5 cm tumor in sigmoid colon considered large?

My tumor, found after a hemorroidectomy (necessary) failed to stop bleeding, was 5cm and hemispherical as well as soft. I believe that landed in the "not small" category, but its more about the depth of penetration and node involvement. And you really can't tell much from size alone from w...

Re: Depression/Moving on after cancer

Unfortunately, you are by far not alone. We are supposed to be happy to have it beat / NED, but we don't function like we used to, are nervous about going out / eating something that will trigger the "express" button. Some functions get nuked with the tumor. I am in a funk right now as wel...

Re: reversal before finishing Folfox

I had 4 rouds of 8 before reversal. Stopped for 4 weeks before surgery and resumed 4 weeks after. Only thing I did different was take an immodium the day of treatment (Mondays) and 1 last day (Wed)..... this kinds locked things up til Sat but had no "runs" and was able to work each day. St...

Re: Reconnecting surgery

Besides the responses above, may want to discuss gas buildup in bowel. You can get this from swallowing too much air, common if you are grunting from pain alot, swallowing saliva, etc. I had a gas blockage that kept the bowels sleepy and that extended my hospital stay about 3 days....

Re: Outwardly thought we were done but.......

Been in TX for 19 years but being a 'toban originally, I'll take that Canadian water bit. My chemo was FOLFOX6. Doesn't seem like its a renal drug but with a 2.5cm^3 lump I'm betting it is a separate vs. met. Good or bad, who knows. Anyway, appear to have the colon under control, so we'll see how th...

Re: Outwardly thought we were done but.......

No idea if related yet....too early. Got on here to research and ended up venting, sorry all. 1st day shock and awe, will be back tomorrow with game face on. Mean time, I can do some pizza w/ white sauce w/o too many issues, so it's ordered......some comfy food and soldier on!

Outwardly thought we were done but.......

....not yet. After getting DX'd IIIB a year ago and doing a LAR w/ straight connect, finished chemo with bells on, controlable bowels, but went in for follow up scans and have a golfball growing off the left kidney. 1st round went to damn well I guess. Don't see a lot on the combination of the two (...

Re: Post-Chemo Chills

I've done the 6 weeks 5FU with radiation, and 3 FOLFOX6 prior to my takedown, and I get chilled at anything under 70 degrees with the slightest wind. A blanket in the evening is a must. Sounds like a good excuse for a carribean vacation to me.

Re: How long after takedown to begin step one of bowel training?

I had my reversal 12/13. I went a week and a half after coming home letting the new plumbing run freely trying to ensure that it was fully functioning, and the tried immodium for the first time New Years Eve day. I took 2 tabs to start in the am, which pretty much immediately slowed things down, and...

Re: living with the chemo pump for 45 days

I wore a belt with everything, including shorts some nights...kept me from rolling onto one side, but was better than getting up at night to pee and forgetting the darned thing. It is surprising how much forgivness there is in the bungee... err, tubing, and with the port, should you forget/drop the ...

Re: distended (prolapsed?) stoma

Never replied to this afterwards....for anyone searching on this, I did have a peristomal hernia. Ended up in hospital for 3 days, and management thereafter was icing for any time i was upright (lying down I was fine) for 1.5 weeks until I had my takedown, otherwise it would have been a hernia repai...

Re: How soon is too soon for Immodium?

I'll put the call in. Last thing I want is to be too tightened up / blockage so soon after getting the engine re-fired, but will need some help along the way as well. I'm mainly in the office, but can be called upon to drive to worksites from 1 hr to 4 hrs away... that will be put off as long as pos...

Re: How long after takedown to begin step one of bowel training?

MDA says take no more than 8 oz water with your meals, then take soluble fibre supplement with only 2 oz water with no other fluids for an hour, and then for bowel training says take a cup of hot liquid after your main meal..... I am in need of clarification as well! Isn't this a roller coaster? You...

How soon is too soon for Immodium?

OK, I'm 16 days post takedown and 10 days at home. Metamucil is now up to 3x day (starting yesterday) and I did kinda hurry the MDA process a bit trying hot coffee after dinner last night, to no avail, and then over did it with prune juice this morning after I woke up at 4, that was a mistake paid f...
