Re: Recovery time....

Assuming you are in the U.S., a full time employee and covered under the FMLA, I recommend taking the full 12 weeks that you may be entitled to under the FMLA. You're having a lot done all at once. And while the body does heal quickly, it's not as quick as most of us would like. You're going to need...

Re: looking for research on lynch recurrence

Hi Sophie: The good news about having Lynch, is that there we are not high risk for recurrence . The bad news is that we are still high risk (compared to the general population) for a host of other gastro-related primary cancers, as well as brain, skin, and most recently, breast. However, after colo...

Re: Voluntary Ostomy?

Thank you all for your posts and comments. Belle, your blog was especially helpful and you essentially articulated nearly everything that I am feeling and experiencing. I didn't know about the ostomy.org boards before now, and, like Colonclub, has a wealth of information. I have a lot to think about...

Voluntary Ostomy?

I can't think of a better forum to pose this. Here's my background. Five years ago at age 41, I was diagnosed with advanced stage endometrial cancer and was subsequently discovered to have Lynch Syndrome (MH2 & MH6 mutations). About 18 months after my final chemo treatment, I was diagnosed with ...

Re: My go at a things people say that irritate me post

This post reminds me of a great little article that appeared in the NY Times a couple of year's ago. "You Look Great’ and Other Lies," Published: June 10, 2011 Here's a link: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/12/fashion/what-to-say-to-someone-whos-sick-this-life.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Re: Subtotal Colectomy for Lynch Syndrome?

Hi Lisa: We share not only the same first name, but a very similar trajectory. I tested positive for Lynch after my first cancer diagnosis in 2008, which was endometrial. Before then, I had always enjoyed excellent health. From then on, I started getting annual colonoscopies. My scope in June 2010 r...

Re: Zofran headaches?

I was prescribed Emend for nausea during chemo. It was excellent. Much more effective than Zofran, I thought.

Onions are the devil's food as far as my new plumbing is concerned. Garlic is a close second. Won't be going near either for a long time.

Re: Hereditary Cancer/ Lynch Syndrome

Grant: I tested positive for Lynch Syndrome after my first cancer diagnosis (endometrial) in 2008. The only good thing that I can say about a Lynch diagnosis is that as a result, I am screened aggressively on an annual basis for other Lynch related cancers. I had a colonoscopy June 2009 (clean) and ...

Re: Asking for prayers...

Many people who have total colectomies due to ulcerative colitis or severe IBS swear that the surgery turns out to a godsend for them. If your nephew's lived for years with UC, perhaps he will feel the same. I had my entire colon removed four and half months ago. Never had UC or IBS (in fact, never ...

I'm with you disco nap...hospital gown and underwear only. It's a Canadian and New York thing. I had the breast shield for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Wish they would have done it years ago.

Re: Looking for help and info.....please!

Elissa: I'm sorry for what you and your husband are having to deal with. It sucks. Period. Fortunately, living in the New York area gives you access to excellent healthcare. I am a 43 year old woman with Lynch Syndrome. I had my first cancer diagnosis at 41 (endometrial) and my second (colon) this p...

The Greatest Wet Wipe Ever

It's been nearly 3 months since my colectomy. In this time, I've gone from about 25 bowel movements a day to about 10. From 25 to 10 is heavenly in comparison, but my butt continues to take a beating with all of this activity. While Calmoseptine and A&D offer some relief, I find it uncomfortable...
