Re: NED- Clear Scans

My scan just came back clear too. 2 years ago I was convinced I would have the disease back by now, but with every clear scan (at 6 month intervals at this point) I am starting to believe I will not get it back. It can be done!

Re: One Year CT Scan and Tests

I think the typical thing these oncologists say is "there is no evidence of disease."
Did you ask what he/she meant by that?
If it is going to continue to bother you, then I would send an email asking to clarify.
Otherwise, feel as good as you can until the next scan.

Re: Dang! Landed in e.r. With bowel obstruction

Happened to me twice, once when I still had an ileostomy and once without one. The surgeons thought that because they saw a stricture in my colon they would have to do surgery and give me a permanent colonostomy, but then they decided to let the GI doc give me a colonoscopy and stretch me out from t...

Re: Surgery scheduled

Once you get used to your ostomy, look into irrigation. It allows you to clean out your colon when you want to and really helps you control your need to empty your bag. There are some youtube videos and other explanations online. Ask your ostomy nurse about it, but mine, shockingly, did not have muc...

Re: What's normal after surgery?

So when they put me back together after having a colostomy for 11 months, it took 6 weeks for my system to get to a point where I felt okay with bowel movements. Then one day 6 months later, I had abdominal pains that sent me to the ER. They determined that a scar tissue "stricture" had fo...

Re: Approaching Last Folfox- Questions for Dr?

Ask about follow up CT scans. My doctors said once every year but I insisted on every 3 months through the first 2 years. I am 30 months since the surgery and it has been 6 months since my last one and I go next week. You will probably see your Oncologist every 3 months with blood work for a couple ...

Re: Second opinions

I saw Dr. Kemeny at SK for a 2nd opinion at the urging of people in my family. By the time I saw her I already had the Stage 3c tumor removed and wanted to be sure that the chemo treatment that I was set to start in Denver, CO was what she would do. She explained that there are some very standard tr...

Re: Sphincter muscle exercises before reversal

Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. Had my Ostomy for 11 months. The first 4 weeks after the reversal are rough, but no accidents, just very frequent and loose visits to the toilet, but it will get better and then be normal after a few months.

Re: Sudden death with Folfox?

Sounds crazy to say that she needs medical attention for 2 weeks because of Folfox.
That is not the normal standard by any means.

Re: Scared- advice needed

Hi, They found my stage 3 in December 2012 and I have had several scans that show I am currently cancer free. If you dig around you will unfortunately see that recurrence rates for stage 3 are high. The best reason to have Chemo is hopefully to kill any escaped cancer cells. Get your dad's docs to d...

Re: 1st round of Oxaliplatin; feeling side effects; any tips

Hi Kim, What you felt after round 1 continued for me throughout the 12 treatments I received. I only drank room temperature water for 4 days following therapy and could begin to tolerate colder drinks after that. Had to stay off the ice-cream throughout since there was no pleasure in it for me. I ke...
